Mohamad Zakaria & Anahat Singh Make History at 2026 World Squash Junior Championships

Egypt's Mohamad Zakaria and India's Anahat Singh etched their names into squash history after claiming the 2026 World Squash Junior Championship titles with commanding victories at White Oaks Resort & Spa in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada.

Both players arrived at the tournament as leading contenders and justified their top billing with outstanding performances throughout the week, achieving significant milestones for themselves and their respective nations

Zakaria further enhanced his rapidly growing reputation by becoming the first male player to win the World Squash Junior Championship on three occasions. Already established among the sport's elite as the PSA World No.7, the Egyptian once again demonstrated why he is regarded as one of the brightest talents in world squash.

Standing in his way was fellow Egyptian and second seed Adam Hawal, who produced an impressive tournament of his own to reach the final. Although the scoreline suggested a comfortable victory, the contest featured numerous lengthy and physically demanding rallies, particularly during a fiercely competitive opening two games.

Zakaria struck first with an assured display to secure the opening game 11-4, using his trademark pace, movement and precision to dictate the majority of exchanges. Hawal responded admirably in the second, matching the top seed point for point and forcing a tense tie-break. However, Zakaria remained composed under pressure, raising his level at the crucial moments to edge the game 12-10 and establish a commanding two-game advantage.

The momentum firmly favoured the reigning champion heading into the third. Although play was briefly interrupted after Zakaria was accidentally struck on the chin by Hawal's racket, the incident failed to disrupt his concentration. Returning to court with renewed focus, he quickly regained control and completed an 11-4 victory to secure a record-breaking third World Junior title.

The women's championship also produced a landmark achievement as India's Anahat Singh became the first Indian player to lift the World Squash Junior Championship trophy.

Having previously reached the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the event, Singh arrived in Canada with genuine title aspirations and delivered arguably the finest performances of her young career. Her success also made her the first Indian finalist since Joshna Chinappa reached the championship match in 2005.

Facing Egypt's second seed Ruqayya Salem in the final, Singh made an outstanding start, immediately imposing herself on the contest with confident, attacking squash. Her accurate hitting and relentless court coverage enabled her to race through the opening game 11-3 before extending her advantage with an equally impressive 11-7 second-game success.

Salem threatened to force the contest back into life in the third, opening up an 8-6 lead as the pressure intensified. However, Singh demonstrated exceptional composure and maturity beyond her years, recovering brilliantly to win five of the final six points and complete an 11-9 victory.

The triumph represents a watershed moment for Indian squash, with Singh becoming the country's first-ever World Junior champion. Alongside Zakaria's unprecedented third men's title, the 2026 World Squash Junior Championships will be remembered for two remarkable achievements that further highlight the emergence of a new generation of world-class talent poised to shape the future of the sport.
