2027-28 PSA Squash World Championships

Auckland has been confirmed as the host city for the 2027-28 PSA Squash World Championships, with the world’s premier individual squash event set to take place from 19-27 February 2028.

The Professional Squash Association (PSA) and Squash New Zealand Poipātū Aotearoa have announced that the championships will be staged at the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) in central Auckland, marking the biggest squash tournament ever held in New Zealand.

The event will carry additional significance as it takes place just five months before squash makes its long-awaited Olympic debut at the LA 2028 Games. The world’s leading players will therefore arrive in Auckland during a crucial period of the season, with the tournament falling directly within the Olympic qualification window.

A championship glass court will be installed inside the NZICC, providing spectators with a central view of the action as the world’s best players compete for one of squash’s most prestigious titles.

The 2027-28 PSA World Squash Championships will form part of an expanded celebration of the sport, running alongside the inaugural World Squash Club Championships. The new competition will give club players from around the world the opportunity to compete on the international stage while the professional game’s biggest event takes place nearby.

The scale of the combined programme is expected to be unprecedented for squash in New Zealand. Almost 40 courts across Auckland clubs will be utilised during the two events, with all venues located within approximately 30 minutes of the championship glass court at the NZICC.

The combined championships will also provide a significant link between the PSA World Tour and the sport’s Olympic future. Squash will make its Olympic debut at LA28, with 16 men and 16 women competing in the singles competitions.

Eight places in each Olympic singles draw will be allocated according to the PSA World Rankings as of 22 May 2028, with qualification determined by ranking position and subject to a maximum of two athletes per National Olympic Committee.

With the 2027-28 PSA World Squash Championships scheduled for February 2028, the tournament will take place firmly within this qualification period, adding further importance to an already prestigious event.

The 2027-28 PSA Squash World Championships are therefore set to represent a landmark occasion for squash in New Zealand, combining the sport’s biggest individual championship with a new global club competition before squash takes its historic place on the Olympic programme later that year.
