Why is tennis legend Sir Andy Murray such a big fan of padel tennis?
Great Britain’s greatest ever tennis player Sir Andy Murray is one of the most vocal advocates for padel tennis.

“It’s lots of fun, easy to learn & people like the fact that you play in pairs, so it’s sociable too,” said the former World No.1 tennis player.

“It’s already started to totally reinvigorate clubs & started to attract new people that had never played tennis before. I think it can only be a good thing for tennis. One of the big barriers to people picking up tennis rackets is that they find tennis clubs intimidating or expensive. Most padel tennis courts are available for people to play on without having to join a club, so that’s a real bonus,” added the former Wimbledon Champion.

Andy Murray is so convinced of its future popularity that that he has invested in Game4Padel which will see the tennis legend play padel tennis exhibitions around the UK.

“If you look at how quickly it is growing across the world, I can’t see it being a fad. It’s played all over South America & it’s now the second-highest participation sport in Spain after football. In the past couple of years, it’s really taken off in places like Italy, Scandinavia & Dubai & so I think it’s going to be around for a while. I think people are predicting it will become an Olympic sport by 2032.”

The Edinburgh-based Game4Padel was founded in 2018 & aims to establish padel tennis as a big sport across the United Kingdom.

34-year-old Murray, the former US Open & Wimbledon Champion, invested in Game4Padel in 2019. By 2022, Game4Pade had five sites as well as being in advanced discussions to open courts at thirty more locations across Great Britain.

“It’s great for young people to play a variety of sports & padel tennis is a fast-paced game which is excellent for developing hand eye co-ordination & general racket skills,” added Murray.
