September 09 2018

James Willstrop was denied victory in the final of the Open International de Squash de Nantes by compatriot Declan James who claimed his first ever win over the former World No.1 & Commonwealth Games Doubles partner in a dramatic 76-minute final which saw the two towering Englishmen showcase their best squash in front of a full audience inside the stunning Théâtre Graslin in France.

Top seed James Willstrop took a comfortable 1-0 cushion before his 25-year-old compatriot fought back to level the scores in the second. The momentum of the match continued to shift between the two Englishmen right up until the final moments when, with the scores locked at 9-9 in the fifth, Declan James held his nerve to edge ahead & claim his biggest Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour title with a 2-11 11-9 5-11 11-9 11-9 victory.
