James Willstrop wins PSA London Squash Open

James Willstrop defeated Zahed Salem of Egypt 11-9 11-7 11-7 in the final of the 2018 PSA London Squash Open at the prestigious Cumberland Lawn Tennis Club to capture his 20th Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour title.

The top seeded Englishman, who had looked in a good form throughout the championships, finished strongly in each game to close-out an impressive 50-minute victory.

In the semi-finals, James defeated compatriot Chris Simpson 11-9 11-8 11-2 in 34 minutes after recovered from losing the first game in his quarter-final against a determined Patrick Rooney to claim a 43 minute 4-11 12-10 11-8 11-9 victory.

James Willstrop & Patrick Rooney faced each other in the quarter-finals following contrasting 2nd round victories. Whilst James defeated Belgium No.1 Jan van den Herrewegen 11-8 11-8 11-4 in 35 minutes, Patrick Rooney was forced to battle for 81 minutes to overcome Bernat Jaume of Spain before eventually winning 7-11 9-11 11-5 11-4 15-13.
