2024 Milwaukee Hong Kong Open Review

October 24 2024

2024 Milwaukee Hong Kong Squash Open will be held from the 2nd to 8th December.
The 2024 Milwaukee Hong Kong Squash Open will be held from the 2nd to 8th December. The opening rounds of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Squash Tour Platinum event will be staged at the Hong Kong Squash Centre with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals played on an all-glass show court erected at Edinburgh Place.

Reigning Hong Kong squash champions Paul Coll and Hania El Hammamy return as third seeds. Paul Coll, who clinched five PSA World Tour titles last season, has yet to reach a final in the 2024-2025 campaign. Similarly, Hania El Hammamy hasn’t secured a title since her triumph in Hong Kong in 2023.

Egypt’s Ali Farag and Nour ElSherbini have been confirmed as top seeds. Ali Farag, the current World No.1, has endured a tough 2024-25 squash season so far, with losses in both the CIB Egyptian Squash Open and Paris Squash 2024 leaving him without a trophy. In contrast, Nour ElSherbini has been dominant, securing three major PSA World Tour titles with an impressive 16-match unbeaten streak.

Nouran Gohar and Mostafa Asal, seeded second, will be fierce contenders. Mostafa Asal, in outstanding form after winning two major PSA World Tour titles this squash season, has his sights set on a second Hong Kong Squash Open victory. Nouran Gohar, who captured the title in 2016, ended last season with a remarkable 25-match winning streak and five PSA World Tour titles but has been beaten by Nour ElSherbini in her first three events of the 2024-2025 season.

The tournament also features other strong title challengers, including Men’s World Squash Champion Diego Elias and USA’s No.1 Olivia Weaver. Diego Elias, the QTerminals Qatar Squash Classic winner, is pushing for a top three PSA World Ranking, while Olivia Weaver, fresh off her Silicon Valley Squash Open victory, is set to challenge the top three and take a major title.

Hong Kong will also be represented by five home players, hoping to leverage the support of local fans. In the women’s draw, World No.24 Tomato Ho faces Scotland’s Lisa Aitken in the opening round. On the men’s side, wildcards Leung Chi Hin Henry and Tsz Kwan Lau face tough challenges against Farag and Youssef Ibrahim, respectively.

UNSQUASHABLE will be represented at the 2024 Milwaukee Hong Kong Squash Open by Miguel Rodriguez and Iker Pajares Bernabeu who will face each other in the 1st round of the (PSA) World Squash Tour Platinum event.
