Joel Makin & Tesni Murphy Crowned 2025 British National Champions
August 28 2025

Top seeds Joel Makin and Tesni Murphy of Wales reaffirmed their status as the leading forces in British squash after both clinched their third British National Squash Championship crowns on finals day at St George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club in Weybridge, England.
World No.4 Joel Makin, appearing in his sixth consecutive final at the event, captured his third title with a straight-games victory over England’s Nick Wall. Tesni Murphy, meanwhile, overcame 21-year-old Torrie Malik of England in four fiercely contested games.
In the men’s title decider, Joel Makin showcased the form that had carried him through the week with near perfection, dispatching fifth seed Nick Wall 11-4 12-10 11-3 in 43 minutes. The Welshman entered the final brimming with confidence following a polished semi-final triumph against rising star Jonah Bryant, and he carried that momentum seamlessly into the showpiece. His trademark precision and relentless tempo proved decisive, particularly in the second game where his English opponent forced a tense tie-break before the Welsman’s composure told at the crucial moment.
The women’s final marked the first career meeting between Tesni Murphy and Torrie Malik, and despite the disparity in experience, the young English player produced a spirited challenge. Murphy’s trademark hold and deception saw her establish a commanding two-game lead, but Malik responded impressively in the third, striking cleanly down both flanks to halve the deficit.
The fourth game provided a fitting climax, with Malik saving two Championship Balls to keep her title hopes alive. Ultimately, however, Murphy’s quality under pressure shone through as she secured the crown 11-9 11-5 7-1, 11-9, confirming her third British Nationals triumph.
