Diego Elias & Hania El Hammamy Crowned 2026 El Gouna International Squash Open Champions
April 11 2026
The 2026 El Gouna International Squash Open concluded with two statement performances from Diego Elias and Hania El Hammamy who claimed the men’s and women’s titles respectively on a dramatic finals night in Egypt.
Men’s 4th seed Diego Elias delivered a performance of authority and precision to secure his first title of the 2025/26 PSA Squash Tour season, dismantling Mohamad Zakaria in emphatic fashion with a dominant 38-minute 11-1 11-7 11-1 victory over the 18-year-old World Junior Champion.
Elias’ display was particularly impressive given the context of his week. Having produced a thrilling semi-final triumph over World No.1 Mostafa Asal, the 2024 Men’s World Squash Champion showed no signs of fatigue as he controlled the final from the outset. His accuracy to the back corners and assured movement around the court left Zakaria struggling to impose himself, with the teenager unable to replicate the intensity that had carried him through earlier rounds.
The result saw Diego Elias become the first non-Egyptian winner of the El Gouna Squash International since Grégory Gaultier lifted the trophy in 2017, underlining the significance of the achievement against a strong home contingent.
The women’s final provided a stark contrast in style but no less drama, as the top two seeds, Hania El Hammamy and Nour ElSherbini, contested a high-quality encounter with the World No.1 ranking at stake.
In another gripping chapter of their rivalry, Hania El Hammamy demonstrated composure and resilience to recover from 2–1 down and claim her second El Gouna Squash International crown with an 11-7 9-11 8-11 11-4 11-9 victory after 78 minutes.
Momentum shifted repeatedly throughout the contest. ElSherbini appeared poised to seize control in the deciding game, fighting back from 5-1 down to edge ahead 7-6. Yet El Hammamy’s ability to raise her level in the crucial exchanges proved decisive. A series of precise winners and disciplined rallies enabled her to close out the match and secure her fifth major PSA World Squash Tour title of the season.
On a finals night rich in quality and narrative, Diego Elias’ clinical dominance, and Hania El Hammamy’s fighting spirit combined to provide a fitting conclusion to one of the PSA World Squash Tour’s most prestigious events.~
The 2026 (PSA) El Gouna International Squash Open was staged from the 4th to 10th April.

The Professional Squash Association (PSA) have released the draws for the 2026 El Gouna International Squash Open with defending men’s champion Mostafa Asal and 2022 women’s winner Hania El Hammamy heading the respective fields. A total of 32 players in each draw will compete for the season’s final PSA World Tour Platinum event in what will be the 14th edition of the men’s event and the ninth staging for the women.
The tournament runs from the 4th to 10th April 2026, culminating on the iconic glass court at the El Gouna Conference & Culture Center, while the opening rounds will be hosted at the El Gouna Squash Complex.
World No.1 Mostafa Asal returns in formidable form as he targets a third El Gouna title, which would see him join Egyptian greats Ramy Ashour and Ali Farag as the most successful men in the tournament’s history. Still only 24, Asal has reached the final in each of the past four editions and has dominated the current campaign, claiming five of the six major trophies so far - including the last three without conceding a game. He begins his title defence against England’s Curtis Malik.
Second seed Paul Coll remains in pursuit of his maiden El Gouna crown. The New Zealander finished runner-up in both 2021 and 2022, losing to Asal and Mohamed Elshorbagy respectively. However, with four PSA World Squash Tour Platinum final appearances this season, Coll arrives as a serious contender to add another major title to his résumé.
Completing the top four seeds are two-time finalist Karim Gawad and reigning Men's World Squash Champion Diego Elias. Gawad’s return to World No.3, his highest ranking since 2020, underlines a resurgence built on his trademark creativity and touch, and he faces Declan James in round one. Elias, meanwhile, is still seeking his breakthrough performance in El Gouna; despite multiple appearances, the former World No.1 has yet to reach the final and is only recently returning to full fitness after an injury-hit season.
On the women’s side, Hania El Hammamy leads a fiercely competitive field following a standout year that has already delivered four major titles. The World No.1 opens against India’s teenage prodigy Anahat Singh, with the Egyptian aiming to become just the fourth woman to win the El Gouna title more than once.
World No.2 Nour ElSherbini also arrives in strong form after lifting titles at the Hong Kong Open and the Windy City Open, results that propelled her back up the rankings. The six-time Women's World Squash Champion first won in El Gouna in 2017 and last triumphed here in 2021, and she will be eager to close the rankings gap on El Hammamy with another deep run.
World No.3 Amina Orfi and No.4 Olivia Weaver continue their pursuit of a maiden major crown after near misses earlier this season. Weaver held a commanding 9–3 lead in the deciding game of the Tournament of Champions final, while Orfi led two games to love in Chicago, yet both ultimately fell short. Those defeats, however, have only reinforced their belief, and El Gouna may present the ideal opportunity to end the six-year dominance of the women’s “Big Three”.
