2026 Hamburg Squash Open
March 01 2026
The Professional Squash Association (PSA) have released the draws for the Sportwerk Hamburg Squash Open, with brothers Marwan ElShorbagy and Mohamed ElShorbagy leading the men’s field, while Egypt’s Salma Hany heads the women’s draw at the PSA Bronze-level tournament.
The competition will once again be staged at Sportwerk Hamburg in Hamburg, marking the third consecutive year the venue has hosted a PSA Bronze event. Matches will take place from 15–19 April, with live coverage available on SQUASHTV, as the German city prepares to welcome another strong international field.
World No.8 Marwan ElShorbagy arrives as the top seed in the men’s draw, targeting his second title of 2026 and a third trophy within the past year. The former World No.3 returns to Germany for only the second time in his PSA career, carrying added motivation following a contentious defeat at the venue two years ago. Having recently slipped from No.5 to No.8 in the world rankings, the 30-year-old will be eager to reassert his position among the sport’s leading contenders.
His younger brother Mohamed, one of the defining players of the modern era, enters the tournament as the No.2 seed. The former World No.1 and World Champion will be making his competitive debut in Germany and is chasing what would be the 52nd PSA title of his remarkable career. Victory in Hamburg would move him level with Peter Nicol in third place on the all-time list of PSA title winners. Known universally as ‘The Beast’, ElShorbagy remains capable of producing electrifying performances, and local supporters will be hoping to see him reach the final of the season’s last Bronze event.
Egyptian pair Youssef Soliman and Aly Abou Eleinen complete the top four seeds and represent serious threats to the favourites. Soliman has endured an injury-disrupted season but will be determined to finish strongly and build momentum heading into the next campaign. Abou Eleinen, meanwhile, enjoyed a breakthrough run to the final of the Karachi Open earlier this year and will be keen to secure his first PSA title since November 2023.
In the women’s draw, World No.12 Salma Hany leads the field. The Egyptian is renowned for her creative, attacking style and will be aiming to capture her first title in almost twelve months. Injury setbacks have slowed her progress this season, but the former World No.7 will hope a strong week in Hamburg can reignite her push towards the world’s top ten.
Belgium’s Nele Gilis returns as the No.2 seed after defeating Hany in the semi-finals of the 2024 edition. Gilis opened the current season impressively with a runner-up finish at the London Classic and followed that with a quarter-final appearance at the Egyptian Open, although deeper runs have proved elusive in recent months. With experience of the Hamburg event already under her belt, she will be eager to produce another strong performance.
England’s Jasmine Hutton and France’s Melissa Alves occupy the No.3 and No.4 seedings respectively. Hutton has shown encouraging form this season, frequently pushing higher-ranked opponents and now seeking to convert those performances into silverware as she climbs the rankings. Alves, who has collected two titles over the past year, remains a dangerous competitor and returns to Germany hoping to make another deep run.
Home interest will centre on Germany’s leading player Raphael Kandra, who begins his campaign against France’s Toufik Mekhalfi in the opening round. The experienced 35-year-old can expect strong support from the local crowd, while German wildcards Marek Panacek, Yannick Omlor, Maya Weishar and Katerina Tycova will also look to make the most of home advantage during the opening stages of the tournament.
