Miguel Rodriguez & Lucy Turmel Crowned 2026 STARR Bermuda Open Champions

Miguel Rodriguez and Lucy Turmel were crowned champions at the 2026 STARR Bermuda Squash Open, emerging from markedly different finals to secure the titles at the penultimate Bronze event of the 2025/26 PSA World Squash Tour season in Devonshire.

Spectators at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association National Squash Centre were treated to a compelling men’s final befitting the occasion. A match involving Rodríguez seldom lacks entertainment, and the presence of the gifted Egyptian Kareem El Torkey ensured a captivating contest from the outset.

The Colombian’s experience was evident as he claimed the opening game 11-5, setting an early marker against an opponent nearly two decades his junior. El Torkey responded impressively, tightening his length and exploiting any loose work from Rodríguez to turn the match on its head and establish a 2-1 advantage. Yet Rodríguez’s hallmark resilience surfaced once more. Raising both his intensity and accuracy, he forced errors from the top seed and surged through the closing stages, taking the fourth and fifth games 11-5 11-7 to seal his 31st PSA World Squash Tour title in stirring fashion.

Earlier, the women’s final had promised a high-quality encounter as Turmel faced top seed and World No.19 Sabrina Sobhy. Sobhy justified her billing across the first two games, controlling the rallies and moving confidently into a two-game lead, 11-4 11-7.

Turmel began to find her rhythm in the third, narrowing the gap to 7-6 as the rallies grew more competitive. However, the match took an unfortunate turn following a sharp cross-court nick from the Englishwoman. Sobhy pushed explosively to retrieve the ball but immediately fell to the floor, clutching her right Achilles tendon. Despite assistance from medical staff, the American was unable to continue, handing Turmel her seventh career title in deeply unfortunate circumstances that neither player would have wished for.

The 2026 STARR Bermuda Squash Open was staged by the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association at the National Squash Centre in Devonshire, Bermuda from the 14th to 18th April.
