Mohamad Zakaria & Amina Orfi Cowned 2026 Karachi Open Champions

World Junior Champions Mohamad Zakaria and Amina Orfi were crowned champions of the 2026 Rich Venus Karachi Squash Open after producing outstanding wins over Aly Abou Eleinen and Sivasangari Subramaniam respectively at the DA Creek Club in Karachi, Pakistan.

In a men’s final of extraordinary intensity and endurance, World No.11 Mohamad Zakaria claimed the biggest title of his career by edging fellow Egyptian Aly Abou Eleinen in a gripping 100-minute encounter. The 18-year-old prevailed 9-11 11-9 12-14 11-7 11-7 in a match that ebbed and flowed relentlessly from start to finish.

Zakaria was forced to dig deep on multiple occasions, twice responding to game deficits with remarkable resilience. The turning point came in the fourth game, where he recovered from 6-2 down with a surge of aggressive, controlled squash to force a deciding fifth game. As the contest moved beyond the 90-minute mark, the physical demands began to tell on World No.14 Eleinen, who struggled with cramp, allowing Zakaria to seize the initiative. Sensing the opportunity, the young Egyptian raced into a commanding 6-1 lead in the decider and showed impressive composure to close out victory, securing the seventh PSA World Squash Tour title of his rapidly developing career.

The women’s final saw another commanding display from Egypt’s Amina Orfi, who continued her remarkable 2025/26 squash season with a straight-games victory over No.2 seed Sivasangari Subramaniam. World No.3 Orfi delivered a performance of exceptional clarity and control, winning 11-8 11-2 11-7 to lift the PSA World Tour Gold-level title and her fourth trophy of the campaign.

The four-time World Junior Squash Champion imposed relentless pressure from the outset, with her pace and precision down both wings consistently disrupting Sivasangari’s rhythm. Her dominance was most evident in the second game, where Orfi reeled off 11 consecutive points from 2-0 down to seize complete control of the match. From there, she never relinquished her grip, leading throughout the third game and sealing victory in just 38 minutes.

Together, the triumphs of Mohamad Zakaria and Amina Orfi underlined Egypt’s continued strength at the top of the PSA World Squash Tour, with both young stars showcasing the resilience, tactical intelligence and competitive maturity that mark them out as leading figures in the sport’s next generation.

The 2026 Rich Venus Karachi Squash Open was staged at the DA Creek Club in Karachi from the 6th to 11th January.

UNSQUASHABLE player Iker Pajares Bernabeu delivered a spirited and competitive performance at the 2026 Rich Venus Karachi Squash Open, despite bowing out in the second round to Malaysia’s No.7 seed Eain Yow Ng at the DA Creek Club in Karachi.

Iker entered the contest full of confidence following his opening-round success and immediately showed his intent, engaging Eain Yow Ng in long, physical rallies and refusing to allow the higher seed to settle. However, Eain Yow Ng’s experience and accuracy through the middle of the court proved decisive in the opening game, as the Malaysian edged clear to take it 11-6.

The second game was more evenly contested, with Iker raising his intensity and using clever variations in pace to disrupt his opponent's rhythm. The Spaniard repeatedly found the front corners with precision and pushed the rallies deep, but Eain Yow Ng held his nerve at the crucial moments to close out a tight finish 11-9.

Iker produced his strongest squash in the third game, stepping forward to take the ball early and applying sustained pressure with disciplined length. The UNSQUASHABLE player matched Eain Yow Ng point for point for long stretches, forcing the Malaysian to work hard for every rally. Despite Iker’ persistence and intelligent court craft, Eain Yow Ng’s composure and consistency in the closing stages saw him edge the game 11-8 to seal victory after 47 minutes.

Although the result went in the favour of the Malaysian, Iker’s performance in Karachi underlined his competitiveness at this level. His willingness to engage physically, combined with tactical awareness and resilience, marked a positive showing against a proven top-20 opponent and provided further evidence of his continued progress on the PSA World Tour.

UNSQUASHABLE player Iker Pajares Bernabeu delivered a composed and authoritative performance at the 2026 Rich Venus Karachi Squash Open, easing into the 2nd round with a straight-games 11-6, 11-2, 11-7 victory over local wildcard Tayyab Aslam at the DA Creek Club in Karachi.

Seeded in the 9/16 bracket, the Spanish No.1 asserted control from the opening exchanges, dictating the tempo with accurate length and sharp movement through the middle of the court. Iker quickly established a rhythm, using his disciplined shot selection to keep Aslam pinned deep and deny the home favourite any sustained opportunities to attack. The opening game set the tone, with the UNSQUASHABLE player moving comfortably clear to take it 11-6.

The second game was Iker at his most clinical. Increasing the pace and tightening his lines, he applied constant pressure and capitalised on any loose replies, to take the game 11-2. His ability to transition smoothly from defence to attack proved decisive, repeatedly forcing errors from his opponent.

Aslam showed greater resistance in the third, feeding off the support of the local crowd and attempting to disrupt Iker’ control with more adventurous play. However, the Spaniard remained calm and methodical, absorbing the pressure and reasserting his authority at key moments to close out the match 11-7 and seal victory in 27 minutes.

Fellow UNSQUASHABLE player Iván Pérez produced a determined and competitive display in his 1st round match, despite seeing his campaign brought to a close by Egypt’s Karim El Hammamy.

Facing the 9/16 seed, Iván was tested from the outset by El Hammamy’s pace and accuracy. The Egyptian settled quickly, imposing himself through the middle of the court and capitalising on any loose balls to take the opening game 11–6. Iván, however, continued to work his way into the match, showing patience and resilience as he looked to establish his rhythm against an opponent in strong form.

The second game proved the most challenging period for the Spaniard, with El Hammamy raising the tempo and tightening his lines. Iván was repeatedly forced into long, physically demanding rallies, yet he refused to retreat, competing hard for every point even as the Egyptian moved two games clear with an 11-3 advantage.

In the third, Iván responded with renewed intensity, producing his most assertive passages of play. The UNSQUASHABLE player varied the pace intelligently and looked to step forward whenever possible, pushing El Hammamy into extended exchanges and testing his consistency. Despite Iván’s efforts and sustained pressure, the Egyptian maintained his composure to close out the match 11-6 after 56 minutes of attritional squash.

While the straight-games scoreline favoured El Hammamy, Iván’s performance was marked by perseverance, intelligent shot selection and a willingness to engage in long, physical rallies. His display in Karachi reflected a player continuing to compete with purpose and discipline against high-level opposition on the PSA World Tour.
