The Paris Squash 2024, the first PSA Platinum event of the 2024-2025 PSA Squash Tour season, will take place from the 15ht to 21st September, hosted at the historic Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione, the world’s oldest active circus and a celebrated Parisian landmark.
The PSA squash tournament will feature the 64 highest ranked squash players in the world across men’s and women’s draws. Matches will be held across three venues: the iconic Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione, Squash Montmartre, and Squash Horizon. Fans worldwide can catch the live action on SQUASHTV, with coverage starting from the semi-finals.
The Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione, renowned for its rich circus heritage, will be hosting its third professional squash event, and the first since 1996. The venue's inaugural squash event took place in 1983 and was won by the legendary Jahangir Khan. Over the years, the Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione has diversified its offerings, hosting concerts, political rallies, and various sports events.
The Paris Squash 2024 main draws have been announced, with World No.1s Ali Farag and Nour El Sherbini leading the men’s and women’s categories, respectively. Ali Farag will face USA’s rising star Timothy Brownell in the first round whilst Nour El Sherbini, aiming for her eighth title on European soil, will begin her campaign against a qualifier.
In the men’s draw, two-time British Open Squash Champion Paul Coll is seeded No.2, and after a gruelling 96-minute semi-final against Ali Farag last year, is determined to leave his mark on the first Platinum event of the season. His first-round match against French No.4 Sébastien Bonmalais promises to excite the home crowd.
In the women’s draw, the No.2 seed is reigning World Squash Champion Nouran Gohar, who enters the tournament with a remarkable 25-match unbeaten streak. Nouran Gohar, with five consecutive wins in the 2023-2024 squash season, will be eager to avenge her final loss from last season and challenge Nour El Sherbini for the top spot. Nouran Gohar will face fellow Egyptian Nada Abbas in the first round with a potential semi-final clash with rival Hania El Hammamy.
While the top seeds are favourites, several contenders are poised to challenge the hierarchy. Diego Elias, the newly crowned Men’s World Squash Champion and runner-up in last year’s event, enters the tournament with confidence following his recent triumph in Cairo. Mostafa Asal, the current British Open Squash Champion, ended the 2023-2024 squash season in impressive form and will be eager to start the new season on a high note.
In the women’s draw, No.4 seed Nele Gilis, who hails from Geel, Belgium, just 250 miles from Paris, will hope to draw on local support as she seeks to advance to the latter stages to maintain her top-four ranking.
The Paris Squash 2024 will also see two French teenagers, Lauren Baltayan and Melvil Scianimanico, competing as wildcards. Lauren Baltayan will face Tomato Ho of Hong Kong, China, in the first round, while Melvil Scianimanico will take on England’s Adrian Waller.
