Victor Crouin & Amanda Sobhy win 2025 PSA German Open titles

Victor Crouin of France and the USA’s Amanda Sobhy emerged victorious at the 2025 PSA German Squash Open – Presented by Sportwerk, overcoming No.3 seed Fares Dessouky and defending champion Georgina Kennedy, respectively.

In the men’s final, second seed Victor Crouin clinched his first PSA World Squash Tour title since 2023, capitalising on an injured Fares Dessouky to secure a 21-minute 11-4 11-3 11-1 victory. The Egyptian, who had impressed enroute to the final with a semi-final triumph over last year’s runner-up Dimitri Steinmann of Switzerland, following wins against Yannick Wilhelmi and Ibrahim Elkabbani, was visibly hampered during the match. His movement was compromised after an awkward lunge in the opening game, allowing Victor Crouin to take full control to claim the title.

Victor Crouin’s path to the final was not without its challenges. The Frenchman narrowly avoided an upset in the quarter-finals, rallying from two games down to overcome Mexico’s Leonel Cardenas. However, the 2nd seed  appeared far more composed in his semi-final clash against Switzerland’s Nicolas Mueller, dispatching the seventh seed in straight games.

In the women’s final, third seed Amanda Sobhy claimed her first PSA World Squash title since suffering an Achilles injury in 2023, overcoming top seed Georgina Kennedy of England with a commanding performance. The English player’s journey to the final was marked by inconsistency - after a routine win over Finland’s Emilia Soini, she was taken to five games by compatriot Lucy Turmel before dismantling Melissa Alves in the semi-finals.

Amanda Sobhy, meanwhile, showed resilience early in the tournament, dropping her opening game against Nadine Garas before reeling off nine consecutive game wins to see off Garas, Katie Malliff and Nada Abbas. In the final, the American imposed herself from the outset, denying Georgina Kennedy the opportunity to dictate play. The English No.1 showed flashes of brilliance, particularly midway through the first game, but Sobhy remained composed to take it 11-8.

The second game featured high-quality squash from both players, but Sobhy’s clinical edge proved decisive. Kennedy had a chance to level the match when she earned a game ball, yet a late surge from Sobhy saw the American steal the game with a fortunate back-wall nick. From there, Amanada Sobhy maintained her momentum, staying ahead of Kennedy to seal a well-deserved victory in Hamburg.

The 2025 Professional Squash Association (PSA) German Squash Open will be staged at the Sportwerk Club in Hamburg from the 16th to 23rd March.

World No.13 Aly Abou Eleinen of Egypt has been confirmed as the men’s top seed whilst defending champion and World No.6 Georgina Kennedy of England will top the women’s draw. 

Home interest in the men’s draw will focus on World No.13 Raphael Kandra and Valentin Rapp with the women’s draw including wildcards Katerina Tycova and Saskia Beinhard.

UNSQUASHABLE will be represented at the 2025 German Squash Open, presented by Sportwerk, by Miguel Rodriguez of Colombia, who is seeded four, and Yannick Wilhelmi of Switzerland.

UNSQUASHABLE player Yannick Wilhelmi of Switzerland will face Wild Card Valentin Rapp in the 1st round of the 2025 Professional Squash Association (PSA) German Squash Open - Presented by Sportwerk which starts today in Hamburg.
