Diego Gobbi Reaches 2025 4th HCL SRFI Indian Squash Tour Championships Semi-Finals
December 09 2025
UNSQUASHABLE player Diego Gobbi delivered a composed and authoritative campaign at the 2025 4th HCL SRFI Indian Squash Tour Championships in Chennai, producing a series of polished performances before his run was halted in the semi-finals by Egypt’s Adam Hawal.
After receiving a bye in the opening round, Diego opened his tournament with a confident, high-quality display against India’s Diwakar Singh. The Brazilian controlled the tempo from the outset, combining tight length with clinical volleying to secure an 11-4 12-10 11-4 victory in 25 minutes. His ability to defuse Singh’s early pace and dominate the crucial phases of the second game set the tone for the rest of his week.
Diego’s most complete performance came in the quarter-finals, where he dismantled No.3 seed Daniel Poleshchuk in just 21 minutes. Playing with rhythm, clarity and a firm grip on the middle of the court, he restricted the Israeli’s opportunities throughout, posting an emphatic 11-5 11-4 11-3 win. It was a statement showing - disciplined, accurate and tactically precise - that underlined the growing maturity in the Brazilian’s game.
The semi-finals brought a sterner test against Egypt’s Adam Hawal. In a competitive and tightly contested encounter, Diego pushed the seeded Egyptian throughout but ultimately fell 12-10 11-9 11-7 in 39 minutes. Diego produced spells of controlled, intelligent squash, particularly in the opening game where he matched Hawal point for point, but the Egyptian’s late surges in each game proved decisive. Despite the straight-games scoreline, the match showcased Diego’s resilience and his capacity to challenge higher-seeded opponents deep into key exchanges.
Across the week in Chennai, Diego Gobbi once again demonstrated why he remains one of South America’s most promising and industrious competitors. His measured courtcraft, physical sharpness and tactical discipline were evident in every round, with his quarter-final performance in particular highlighting his potential to push further up the PSA ladder.
