Owain Taylor Wins PSA Tasmanian Open

UNSQUASHABLE player Owain Taylor produced an outstanding week of squash to capture the 2026 PSA City of Devonport Tasmanian Squash Open title, delivering a series of commanding performances at the Devonport Squash Centre in Tasmania before overcoming Canada's Karim Aguib Michael in a gripping five-game final.

Seeded second for the PSA World Squash Tour event, the Welshman combined relentless accuracy, intelligent tactical play and impressive physical endurance throughout the tournament, dropping just two games on his way to lifting the trophy.

After receiving a first-round bye, Owain began his campaign with a composed straight-games victory over South Korea's Seojin Oh. Establishing control from the outset, he dictated the tempo with precise length and disciplined shot selection to secure an 11-8 11-4 11-3 victory in just 31 minutes.

Confidence continued to build in the quarter-finals against Australia's Oscar Curtis. Although the opening game proved fiercely contested, Owain maintained his composure to edge it 12-10 before taking complete control of the match. Dominating the middle of the court and forcing errors through consistent pressure, he closed out an impressive 12-10 11-5 11-3 victory in 47 minutes.

Owain carried that momentum into the semi-finals, where he produced arguably his most convincing performance of the week against Egypt's Omar Helmy. Displaying exceptional movement and accuracy, the Welshman gave his opponent little opportunity to settle, racing to an emphatic 11-2 11-4 11-9 victory to book his place in the championship match after only 35 minutes.

The final against Canada's Karim Aguib Michael proved to be a fitting conclusion to an excellent tournament. Both players produced high-quality attacking squash in an absorbing contest that swung repeatedly in momentum. Owain claimed the opening game 11-9 before Michael responded to level the match. Undeterred, the UNSQUASHABLE player regained the advantage by edging another closely fought third game 11-9, only for the Canadian to force a deciding fifth after taking the fourth.

With the title on the line, Owain demonstrated the composure and championship mentality that had characterised his performances all week. Raising both the intensity and quality of his squash, he controlled the decisive game through accurate length, disciplined movement and intelligent shot selection, pulling away to secure an 11-9 9-11 11-9 4-11 11-4 victory after 81 minutes.

Throughout the tournament, Owain showcased the consistency, tactical maturity and competitive resilience required to succeed on the PSA World Squash Tour. His ability to dominate the early rounds before producing under pressure in a hard-fought final underlined both his physical conditioning and mental strength.

The title triumph in Devonport represents another significant achievement in Owain's professional playing career and provides further evidence of his continued progress on the PSA World Squash Tour. Having defeated a strong international field, the Welshman leaves Tasmania with valuable ranking points, renewed confidence and another PSA title to add to his growing list of accomplishments.
