Miguel Rodríguez reaches semi-finals of 2026 XXVII Pan American Squash Championships

UNSQUASHABLE player Miguel Rodríguez produced a strong run at the 2026 Men’s XXVII Pan American Squash Championships in Asunción, Paraguay, reaching the semi-finals after overcoming a series of demanding matches against leading players from across the Americas.

The Colombian began his campaign with a first-round bye before making a confident start against Canada's Connor Turk in the second round,  controlling the contest from the outset and using his experience and precise shot selection to dictate the pace and complete an assured 11-4 11-8 11-5 victory.

A significantly tougher test awaited Miguel in the last 16 against fellow UNSQUASHABLE player Diego Gobbi of Brazil. The pair traded games in an absorbing contest, with neither able to establish sustained control. After twice falling behind, Miguel demonstrated his trademark resilience to win the fourth game and force a decider. He raised his intensity when it mattered most, closing out an impressive 8-11 11-7 9-11 11-7 11-6 victory.

A quarter-final against USA No.1 Timothy Brownell provided another stern examination. Miguel again had to recover from losing the opening game, but his experience proved decisive as he gradually took control of the rallies. A pivotal third game went to a 14-12 finish in the Colombian's favour, giving him the momentum he needed to complete a 9-11 11-5 14-12 11-6 victory and secure his place in the last four.

Miguel faced Peru's top seed Diego Elías in the semi-finals, and despite competing strongly against one of the leading players in the world, was unable to establish his usual rhythm as Elías produced a highly controlled performance. The Peruvian took the match 11-3 11-3 11-4 to bring Miguel's impressive campaign to an end.

Although he narrowly missed out on a place in the final, Miguel's run to the semi-finals represented another strong performance on the Pan American stage. His victories over Diego Gobbi and Tomothy Brownell demonstrated the experience, determination and competitive resilience that have remained hallmarks of his distinguished career.

The result adds another deep run at a major regional championship to Miguel's impressive record and further underlines his enduring status as one of Colombia's leading players. His ability to overcome two demanding five-game and four-game battles before reaching the semi-finals highlights the physical and mental qualities that continue to make the UNSQUASHABLE player a formidable opponent on the international stage.
