Miguel Rodríguez wins Silver Medal at 2026 PanAm Squash Championships

UNSQUASHABLE player Miguel Rodríguez delivered another outstanding performance on the international stage by claiming the Silver Medal at the 2026 PanAm Squash Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Representing Colombia against the strongest players from across the Americas, Miguel produced a series of commanding displays to reach the Men's Final before finishing runner-up to Mexico's Leonel Cárdenas.
Miguel began his campaign in emphatic fashion with a one-sided victory over Guyana's Daniel Carl Ince. Dominating from the opening rally, the Colombian dictated every aspect of the contest through relentless pace, accurate length and intelligent shot selection, requiring little more than 20 minutes to complete an overwhelming 11-1 11-3,11-0 success.
The quarter-finals brought a sterner challenge against Barbados' Khamal Cumberbatch, but Rodríguez quickly established control with his trademark movement and attacking flair. Maintaining relentless pressure throughout the contest, he powered to an impressive 11-7 11-6 11-1 victory to secure his place in the last four.
A place in the gold medal match was on the line in the semi-finals, where Miguel faced Guatamala No.1 Alejandro Enríquez. After taking the opening game, the Colombian briefly surrendered the initiative as Enríquez levelled the contest. Miguel responded like a true champion, dramatically raising the intensity of his play and conceding just seven points across the final two games to complete an excellent 11-7 9-11 11-1 11-6 victory.
The men's final saw Miguel take on Mexico's Leonel Cárdenas. Despite producing moments of his trademark attacking squash, the Colombian found Cárdenas in outstanding form as the Mexican controlled the key exchanges to secure an 11-8 11-6 11-5 victory and the Pan American title.
Although Miguel narrowly missed out on the gold medal, his performances throughout the championships once again demonstrated the qualities that have made him one of the most respected competitors in Pan American squash. Reaching the final while representing Colombia against a highly competitive international field is another significant achievement in his distinguished career.
The Silver Medal adds yet another notable accomplishment to Miguel's remarkable résumé and reflects the consistency, professionalism and competitive spirit that continue to define career. His performances in Santo Domingo reinforced his reputation as one of the region's leading players and provided another memorable chapter in an outstanding international career.
In the preceding Mixed Doubles, Miguel claimed the Silver Medal with partner Lucía Bautista Sarmiento after the Colombian pair narrowly missed-out to Luz Sarahí López Domínguez and Alfredo Ávila in a closely-contested and entertaining final.
