Cristina Tartarone wins fifth Italian National Squash Championship title UNSQUASHABLE

UNSQUASHABLE player Cristina Tartarone claimed a fifth Italian National Championship title with a dominant display at the 2026 Italian Squash Championships, staged at the Italian National Squash Centre in Riccione.

The Italian No.1 and top seed for the women’s event, Cristina lived up to her billing throughout the tournament, progressing to the title without dropping a single game. Combining tactical intelligence, precise shot-making and relentless court coverage, she proved a class above the field as she secured another prestigious national crown.

After receiving a first-round bye, Cristina opened her campaign in commanding fashion against Mariagiovanna Trombetta. The reigning champion immediately established control of the rallies, using accurate length and intelligent variation to dictate play from the centre of the court. Her consistency and composure proved decisive as she completed an assured 11-5 11-5 11-6 victory to advance to the semi-finals.

Her semi-final against Beatrice Avolio presented a sterner challenge, but Cristina once again demonstrated why she remains the benchmark in Italian women’s squash. Although Avolio produced moments of attacking quality and attempted to disrupt the top seed’s rhythm, Cristina responded with disciplined shot selection and excellent movement, securing an 11-5 11-4 11-4 victory to book her place in the final.

The championship match saw Cristina deliver arguably her most impressive performance of the tournament. Facing Giorgia Ranieri, the top seed produced a masterclass in controlled aggression, dominating from the opening rally and denying her opponent any opportunity to settle. Her accuracy into the back corners and clinical finishing at the front of the court repeatedly forced errors, resulting in an 11-2 11-1 11-3 triumph.

Across the tournament, Cristina conceded just 46 points in nine games, a statistic that underlined her authority throughout the week. Her ability to maintain high standards from her opening match to the final reflected both her experience and her growing confidence following another strong season on the PSA World Squash Tour.

A fifth Italian National Championship title represents another significant milestone in Cristina’s career and further enhances her standing as the most accomplished women's player in Italian squash. Her performances in Riccione showcased the consistency, professionalism and competitive drive that continue to make her a formidable presence on both the domestic and international stage.
