Yuri Farneti wins record twelfth consecutive Italian National Squash Championship title

UNSQUASHABLE player Yuri Farneti further enhanced his status as the most successful player in Italian squash history by securing a record-breaking 12th Italian National Championship title at the 2026 Italian Squash Championships, staged at the Italian National Squash Centre in Riccione.

Seeded third/fourth for the men’s event, Yuri produced a dominant series of performances throughout the tournament, combining experience, tactical intelligence and clinical finishing to claim the national crown. His title-winning campaign featured four victories, with the Italian dropping just a single game on his way to lifting the trophy once again.

Following a first-round bye, Yuri opened his challenge in emphatic fashion against Massimo Planqué. Displaying complete control from the outset, he dictated the pace of the rallies and used his superior movement and accuracy to record an overwhelming 11-1 11-3 11-4 victory.

The quarter-finals followed a similar pattern as Yuri dismantled Thomas James Gartner with another commanding performance. Relentless pressure and precise shot-making left his opponent with little room to settle, allowing the reigning champion to cruise through 11-1 11-4 11-1 and secure a place in the last four.

If there were any doubts about Yuri’s title credentials, they were emphatically erased in the semi-finals. Facing second seed Filippo Conti, the experienced Italian delivered one of the standout displays of the tournament. Controlling every aspect of the contest, Yuri stormed to an 11-5 11-7 11-0 victory, demonstrating the quality and consistency that have defined his long and successful career.

The final against top seed Nicolas Serna Londono provided a sterner examination. The opening game was fiercely contested, with Yuri edging a tense battle 13-11 to gain an early advantage. Serna Londono responded strongly but was unable to prevent Yuri from claiming a 13-11 11-2 11-8 victory.

Across the event, Yuri showcased the qualities that have made him a dominant force in Italian squash for more than a decade. His ability to control the middle of the court, apply sustained pressure and raise his level in the biggest moments proved decisive once again.

A 12th Italian National Squash Championship title is a remarkable achievement and another significant milestone in Yuri’s distinguished career. The triumph not only extends his record at the national championships but also highlights his enduring competitiveness and commitment to excellence at the highest level of Italian squash.
