Iván Pérez wins PSA Cognac Open title in France

Iván Pérez claimed his third career PSA World Tour, & second of the year, with a 52-minute 11-7 8-11 11-9 11-6 victory over top seed Yahya Elnawasany of Egypt to claim the PSA Open de Cognac at the Squash La Belle Allée in France.
The 3rd seeded Spaniard came into the tournament at a career-high No.105 in the PSA World Rankings & after receiving a bye through to the 2nd round started his campaign with an 11-6 11-4 11-5 victory over compatriot Aron Astray in 30 minutes.
In the quarter-finals, Iván defeated 6th seeded Frenchman Edwin Clain 11-7 2-11 11-5 13-11 in 55 minutes & in the semi-finals overcame the 2nd seed & fellow UNSQUASHABLE player Nick Wall 11-6 7-11 13-11 11-7 in 49 minutes.
In an eagerly awaited & highly competitive final, Iván took the game to his Egyptian rival to win first game before finding himself level after a fightback from the tournament top seed. The young Spaniard recovered the momentum & came through to secure a memorable four-game victory, his second of 2021 following his win at the Open Squash Aguadulce in March.
