Miguel Rodríguez Makes Historic Motor City Open Appearance
January 12 2026
The 2026 PSA Motor City Squash Open will be staged at the Birmingham Athletic Club in Bloomfield Hills, Detroit, from the 13th to 17th January, and once again UNSQUASHABLE player Miguel Rodríguez, one of the tournament’s most successful competitors, will be firmly in the spotlight.
Miguel arrives in Michigan seeded No.5 and with an exceptional record at one of the longest-established and most prestigious PSA World Squash Tour events on the US squash calendar. The Colombian will be making his 12th appearance at the Motor City Squash Open, a testament to both his longevity at the highest level and his enduring affinity with the tournament.
No player can boast a history to match Miguel’s in Bloomfield Hills. Since first competing at the event, he has reached the quarter-finals on seven occasions, progressed to the semi-finals twice, and memorably lifted the title in 2015 with victory over then South African No.1 Steve Coppinger - a landmark triumph that remains one of the highlights of his professional career. His consistency and attacking flair have long made him a crowd favourite, and he returns this year eager to add another deep run to an already impressive résumé.
First staged in 1999, the Motor City Squash Open has grown into a cornerstone of the PSA World Squash Tour in North America. Hosted and organised annually by the Birmingham Athletic Club, the tournament is renowned for its intimate setting and passionate spectators.
Seeded No.5 for this year’s event, Miguel is once again among the leading contenders, and the 2026 edition promises compelling storylines from the opening round onwards. As the draw unfolds, all eyes will be on whether the experienced UNSQUASHABLE star can draw on his extensive Motor City pedigree to challenge for honours once more at a venue where he has enjoyed some of his finest moments.
