Moustafa Elsirty pushes Diego Elias at PSA Singapore Squash Open

November 15 2022

Moustafa Elsirty made life difficult for Diego Elias in the 2nd round of the MARIGOLD Singapore Squash Open before the recently crowned U.S. Open Champion from Peru booked his place in the quarter-finals with a hard-fought 11-8 11-6 11-9 win on the all-glass show court at the OCBC Arena.

The 3rd seeded Peruvian struggled to find his length against his young & more powerful opponent. Despite being unable to press home his advantage in the opening two games, Moustafa came out strong in the third game, dominating the middle of the court through his superior size & strength & keeping Elias pinned behind him before unleashing a succession of spectacular winners. However, despite leading 9-4, the young Egyptian momentarily lost concentration which allowed Elias to retake the advantage & close-out the game 11-9.

Moustafa Elsirty got his Singapore Open campaign off to the strongest possible start with a powerful & clinical 38-minute 11-9 11-9 11-4 victory over Baptiste Masotti of France.

The young Egyptian took on the Frenchman in a tight encounter on the all-glass court at the OCBC Arena. Both played some outstanding squash in the opening exchanges with nothing to separate them. However, at the end of the first game, Moustafa was able to establish a lead & close-out the game 11-9, despite Massotti saving a game ball.

The exact same happened in the second game, with Moustafa leading 10-8 before Masotti saved a game ball. Once again, Moustafa won the game 11-9 to double his advantage, after which he was able to impose his dominance to win the third game for the loss of just four points to progress to the 2nd round.

“Baptiste is such a good player & he shows a lot of quality every time we play,” said Moustafa. “Last time we played was eight months ago & he won 2-0, it was close. I’m really glad to come through in three & am really looking forward to my next match. “Singapore is such a chilled country. I was talking to Mazen [Hesham] this morning & it is such a good country, everyone is really nice here. I am really liking it here & hopefully it goes well in the next round.

“I’m playing Diego Elias who is a top five player. The last time I played him it didn’t go well so hopefully this time it goes better & I will be prepared for it,” added the young Egyptian.
