Mohamed Abouelghar & Amina Orfi Crowned 2025 China Open Squash Champions

Egypt completed a triumphant double at the 2025 China Squash Open as Mohamed Abouelghar and Amina Orfi claimed the men’s and women’s titles respectively at the Diamond Squash Center in Shanghai.

In a gripping men’s final, Mohamed Abouelghar edged compatriot Youssef Ibrahim 11-6 4-11 11-9 7-11 13-11 in 68 minutes, surviving a dramatic fifth-game battle to secure one of the biggest wins of his recent resurgence. The former World No.7 looked in full command early on, but Ibrahim’s characteristic flair and counter-attacking style repeatedly pulled him back into the match. With the contest poised at two games apiece, both players traded winners in a tense decider before Abouelghar’s steadiness under pressure proved decisive as he closed out the fifth game 13-11 to claim a memorable victory.

The women’s final saw World Junior Champion Amina Orfi continue her rapid ascent on the PSA World Squash Tour with a composed 10-12 11-8 11-2 11-5 victory over Japan’s Satomi Watanabe. After narrowly dropping the opening game, the No.3 seed responded with a display of tactical maturity well beyond her years. Orfi tightened her accuracy, elevated the pace, and dominated the middle of the court to turn the match around. Her emphatic third and fourth games underlined her growing reputation as one of the most formidable young talents in the sport.

The two finals delivered a fitting conclusion to a vibrant week of squash in Shanghai, with the Diamond Squash Center once again showcasing world-class competition and confirming Egypt’s continued strength at the summit of the global game.
