The Spaniard displayed remarkable resilience and composure throughout a fiercely contested 81-minute encounter, eventually prevailing 11-7 10-12 11-7 9-11 11-6 in 81 minutes to book his place in the title. Iván started strongly, using his sharp movement and accurate attacking play to take the opening game, but Rooney hit back with his trademark flair and court craft to level the score in the second.
