Joel Makin & Fayrouz Aboelkheir Crwoned Hong Kong Football Club Squash Open Champions
November 25 2025
Joel Makin and Fayrouz Aboelkheir claimed the 2025 Hong Kong Football Club Squash Open titles in style, each delivering assured performances on finals day at the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Silver-Level World Tour event to overcome Youssef Ibrahim and Sivasangari Subramaniam respectively.
The men’s final reunited Joel Makin and Youssef Ibrahim for their fourth clash of the 2025-2026 season, a rivalry that has consistently produced marathon encounters. Although Ibrahim had edged their most recent meeting at the U.S. Squash Open quarter-finals, this time it was the Welshman who set the tone. Makin established control from the outset, dictating the tempo and securing a two-game lead despite a barrage of physical, punishing rallies. Ibrahim responded with greater freedom in the third, capitalising on a scrappier phase of play and a series of court stoppages to halve the deficit, but the comeback ended there. Makin accelerated sharply in the fourth, tightening his structure and closing out an 11-9 11-6 9-11 11-6 victory after 77 minutes of typically uncompromising squash.
In the women’s final, rising Egyptian star Fayrouz Aboelkheir continued her remarkable ascent with another statement performance, defeating top seed Sivasangari Sivasangari to secure her third title from her last four PSA World Squash Tour events - a triumph that will propel her into the world’s top ten for the first time. Fresh from a confidence-boosting semi-final victory over Amanda Sobhy and her recent title at the Chestnut Hill Classic, the No.3 seed imposed her athleticism and creativity early on, leaving Sivasangari struggling to contain her pace and precision. Although the Malaysian mounted a response in the third game to extend the contest, Aboelkheir reset instantly in the fourth, reasserting her dominance and powering through to capture her fourth title of the 2025 season.
The 2025 Hong Kong Football Club Squash Open was staged at Hong Kong Football Club, Happy Valley, Hong Kong from the 25th to 29th November.
