UNSQUASHABLE player Miguel Rodriguez delivered a stirring comeback performance to defeat France’s Baptiste Masotti in a gruelling five-game contest in the second round of the 2025 Milwaukee Hong Kong Squash Open, winning 7-11 8-11 11-5 11-8 11-8 in an 89-minute thriller that showcased the Colombian’s trademark grit and enduring quality.

Miguel made a slow start as Masotti imposed early control, using his physicality and pace to dominate the opening two games. The Frenchman’s accuracy through the mid-court and willingness to attack short balls prevented Miguel from settling, leaving the former World No.4 facing an uphill task at 0–2 down.

But few players respond to adversity as consistently as Miguel. The Colombian reset superbly in the third game, lifting his intensity and reasserting his presence on the T. His movement sharpened, his lengths tightened, and his confidence visibly returned as he halved the deficit with an authoritative 11-5 game.

With momentum shifting, Miguel continued to elevate his level in the fourth. Masotti attempted to regain control, but Miguel’s resilience and improved accuracy in the front court repeatedly turned rallies in his favour. The Colombian’s ability to absorb pressure and counterattack with precision proved decisive as he forced a fifth game.

The decider was a testament to Miguel’s competitive steel. Despite heavy physical exchanges and Masotti’s continued threat, Miguel maintained clarity under pressure and executed with conviction in the crucial moments. His disciplined lines and refusal to concede the middle of the court enabled him to close out the match 11-8, completing one of the tournament’s most impressive turnarounds.

This victory further underlines the extraordinary staying power of Miguel Rodriguez on the PSA World Tour. His physical resilience, tactical intelligence and refusal to yield remain hallmarks of his game, and his progression into the quarter-finals in Hong Kong reinforces his status as one of the sport’s most formidable competitors - even deep into a long and demanding contest.

UNSQUASHABLE player Miguel Rodriguez produced a trademark display of resilience and competitive fire to overcome Egypt’s Mohamed ElSherbini in a gripping five-game battle in the opening round of the 2025 Milwaukee Hong Kong Squash Open, prevailing 6-11 11-9 11-5 10-12 11-1 after 78 minutes of enthralling, high-intensity squash.

Miguel made a measured start, absorbing pressure in the opening game as ElSherbini settled quickly and dictated early exchanges. However, the Colombian responded with characteristic determination in the second, increasing his tempo and widening the court to disrupt the Egyptian’s rhythm. His reward came with a hard-earned 11-9 game to level the contest and ignite the momentum shift.

With confidence building, Miguel produced his most assertive squash in the third. His court coverage, still among the most explosive on the PSA World Squash Tour, combined with tight, attacking lines forced ElSherbini repeatedly onto the defensive, allowing the Colombian to take a deserved 2-1 game lead.

The fourth game proved the match’s most dramatic phase.
