Marwan Elshorbagy of England and Satomi Watanabe of Japan won the respective men’s and women’s titles at the 2025 PSA Squash In the Land Squash Championships in Cleveland, USA.

Men’s No.4 seed Marwan Elshorbagy needed just 35 minutes to beat former World Squash Champion and third seed Tarek Momen of Egypt 11-4 11-6 11-6, who had overcome top seed Mohamed Elshorbagy 24 hours earlier to deny the capacity Cleveland crowd the chance to witness all-Elshorbagy final. Marwan Elshorbagy defeated 2nd seed Karim Abdel Gawad 4-11 11-8 11-8 11-6 in an equally entertaining 44-minute semi-final.

The men’s final was the 14th meeting of between the two players on the PSA World Squash Tour and although Marwan Elshorbagy had won only two of their previous 13 matchups, the fourth seeded English stormed to an impressive 35-minute victory to claim the converted title.

The women’s final represented a significant opportunity for both players, with Satomi Watanabe targeting the biggest PSA World Squash Tour title of her career and Amanda Sobhy looking for her first tournament win since returning from a second career-threatening Achilles injury.

Both players had needed five games to claim semi-final victories, with Amanda Sobhy fighting back from 2-1, 5-1 down to beat Rowan Elaraby of Egypt, and Satomi Watanabe achieving an epic win over rising star Amina Orfi by clinching a fifth-game tiebreak 12-10.

The women’s final however proved one-sided with Satomi Watanabe claiming a clinical 11-8 11-8 11-6 victory over her American rival in just 26 minutes.

The highly anticipated Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Squash Tour Silver-level Squash in the Land 2025 tournament will be staged in Cleveland, USA from the 14th to 19th January 2025.

The opening rounds will be split between the Cleveland Skating Club, Urban Squash Cleveland, and the Cleveland Racquet Club. From the quarter-finals onwards, the competition will be staged on an all-glass squash court at the Playhouse Square’s Outcalt Theatre, offering a spectacular setting for the tournament’s climactic stages.

England’s top-ranked players, Mohamed ElShorbagy and Georgina Kennedy, head the seedings in their respective draws. Mohamed ElShorbagy, a 50-time PSA World Squash Tour winner, enters the men’s event in top form, having claimed victory at the China Squash Open before the New Year. His potential path includes a first-round clash with compatriot and UNSQUASHABLE player Nick Wall, a potential quarter-final showdown with fifth seed Youssef Ibrahim, and encounters with sixth seed and defending champion Leonel Cardenas, as well as long-time rival Tarek Momen, whom he has faced 31 times on the PSA Tour.

The bottom half of the men’s draw sees second seed and World No.7 Karim Abdel Gawad aiming to secure his first PSA World Squash Tour title of the 2024/25 squash season. Karim Abdel Gawad faces formidable competition, with seventh seed Abdulla Al-Tamimi, eighth seed Mohamed Abouelghar, and fourth seed Marwan ElShorbagy, a 14-time PSA Squash Tour winner, all posing serious threats. Marwan will begin his campaign against either David Baillargeon or Alex Lau.

The women’s event promises intense competition, led by top seed Georgina Kennedy, runner-up at last year’s tournament, whilst in the bottom half, American favourite Amanda Sobhy will draw significant local support as she hunts for her first title since returning from an Achilles injury.

Adding to the excitement, up-and-coming U.S. players Hollis Robertson and Dixon B Hill have received wildcards, giving home fans extra reason to cheer during this prestigious event.

UNSQUASHABLE will be represented at the 2025 PSA Squash In the Land Squash Championships by James Willstrop, Nick Wall and Velavan Senthilkumar.
