Paul Coll & Hania El Hammamy Crowned 2025 QTerminals Qatar Classic Champions

Paul Coll of New Zealand and Hania El Hammamy of Egypt claimed the 2025 QTerminals Qatar Squash Classic titles in Doha after delivering commanding victories over reigning World Champions Mostafa Asal and Nour ElSherbini on a thrilling finals night at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex.

For Paul Coll, the win marked a historic moment as he became the first New Zealander to lift the prestigious trophy. The 33-year-old produced a near-flawless performance to end a six-match losing streak against World No.1 Mostafa Asal, prevailing 11-9 6-11 11-8 11-5 to secure his 30th PSA title.

It was a fitting redemption for the Kiwi star, whose season has already seen dramatic highs and lows. After opening the campaign with victory at the London Squash Classic, Coll suffered one of the biggest upsets in PSA history when he was defeated by World No.252 Adam Hawal at the CIB Egyptian Squash Open. Yet, in Doha, he responded with trademark grit and tactical precision - stepping up on the volley, controlling the middle, and keeping Asal pinned deep in the court to finally capture a long-awaited title in Qatar.

Meanwhile, Hania Hania El Hammamy continued her perfect start to the season, defeating eight-time World Squash Champion and defending title-holder Nour ElSherbini in straight games to claim her second Qatar Squash Classic crown.

The World No.2, who lifted the CIB Egyptian Squash Open trophy last month, displayed superb composure to win 11-6 15-13 11-8 in a high-quality contest that mirrored last season’s World Championship final - only this time, it was El Hammamy who emerged victorious.

Her triumph not only avenged that previous defeat but also earned her 17th PSA title and her first Qatar Squash Classic victory since 2023, reinforcing her status as the in-form player on the women’s tour.

UNSQUASHABLE player Iker Pajares Bernabeu came within touching distance of one of the biggest wins of his career at the 2025 QTerminals Qatar Classic, only to be edged out in a nail-biting five-game contest by Egypt’s Mohamed Abouelghar at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha.

The Spanish No,1 and 5-time Spanish Squash Champion made an electric start, unsettling Abouelghar with aggressive, precise hitting to storm through the opening game 11-4. Although the Egyptian regrouped to take the next two games 11-5 11-6, Iker refused to let the momentum slip away. Demonstrating his trademark fighting spirit, the Spaniard levelled the match with a determined 11-7 fourth game, forcing a decider in front of an engaged Doha crowd.

The fifth game was a tense, high-quality affair, with both players exchanging punishing rallies and refusing to yield an inch. Iker saved multiple match balls and looked capable of completing a famous upset, but Abouelghar’s flair and composure ultimately carried him over the line 13-11 in one of the most dramatic matches of the tournament so far.

Despite the narrow defeat, Iker once again underlined his reputation as one of the PSA World Squash Tour’s most fearless competitors. His relentless attacking game and ability to rise to the occasion against higher-ranked opponents suggest that bigger breakthroughs are not far away.
