Victor Crouin & Fayrouz Aboelkheir Crowned 2025 Open Squash Classic Champions
October 06 2025

Victor Crouin of France and Egypt’s Fayrouz Aboelkheir were crowned champions at the 2025 Open Squash Classic, both producing impressive performances to triumph in front of a packed crowd at Open Squash FiDi in New York City.
After five days of world-class competition, the event concluded in fitting style with two high-quality finals that captivated the audience. For Crouin, the No.2 seed and crowd favourite, victory marked redemption after finishing runner-up at the same event last year.
Most of the New York crowd were firmly behind Crouin - a player closely associated with the host club and proudly wearing the Open Squash logo on his shirt.
Facing Mexico’s Leonel Cardenas, Crouin entered the contest with a 6-3 head-to-head advantage, though their last two meetings had stretched to over three hours combined. Early exchanges suggested another marathon might be in store, with both players displaying precision, patience, and tactical discipline.
However, it was Crouin who found greater consistency, using tight control and intelligent variation to move Cardenas into all four corners of the court. The French No.1 claimed the opening game 11-5 and repeated the scoreline in the second, feeding off the crowd’s energy and dictating the tempo throughout.
Cardenas, who had come through a gruelling five-game semi-final against Melvil Scianimanico, fought admirably to stay in contention but ultimately could not match Crouin’s intensity. The Frenchman closed out the third game in just eight minutes to secure the title - a deserved triumph and a step beyond his runner-up finish of twelve months ago.
In the women’s final, Fayrouz Aboelkheir once again overcame fellow Egyptian Nada Abbas in a thrilling encounter - a rematch of their Carol Weymuller Open showdown earlier this season in Brooklyn.
Aboelkheir, seeded second, made a blistering start, taking the first game 11-4 with precise shot-making and superb anticipation. She looked set to double her advantage after opening a 5-0 lead in the second, but Abbas, the top seed, began to find her rhythm, battling back from 7-3 down to snatch the game 12-10 and level the contest.
Abbas carried that momentum into the third, dictating the pace and building a 7-3 cushion. Yet Aboelkheir showed impressive composure, staying patient and countering with deadly accuracy at the front of the court to reclaim control and take the game 11-8.
The fourth followed a similar pattern - both players exchanging fierce rallies before the 19-year-old from Alexandria surged clear at the finish, reeling off five consecutive points from 6-6 to seal an 11-6 win and the biggest title of her young career.
Calm and clinical throughout, Aboelkheir underlined her growing reputation as one of Egypt’s brightest emerging talents, while Crouin’s triumph delighted the home crowd and reinforced his status among the PSA Tour’s most consistent and cerebral competitors.

The Professional Squash Association (PSA) have released the draws for the 2025 Open Squash Classic which returns to New York from the 5th to 9th October.
Defending champions Marwan ElShorbagy and Farida Mohamed as the tournament welcomes a total of 48 players.
The 2024 Open Squash Classic saw Marwan ElShorbagy overcome France’s Victor Crouin in the men’s final, while Farida Mohamed prevailed over Hong Kong’s Ka Yi Lee in the women's final. Both players arrive once again as leading contenders, with their seeding positions pointing towards deep runs.
World No.5 Marwan ElShorbagy heads the men’s draw and could be on course for a repeat of last year’s final, with Victor Crouin seeded to lead the opposite half. The Englishman’s path, however, is far from straightforward. His section of the draw includes No.4 seed Leonel Cardenas, No.5 seed Gregoire Marche, and No.7 seed Mohamed ElSherbini. Leonel Cardenas, Mexico’s top-ranked player, will be full of confidence following a breakout 2024/25 season in which he broke into the world’s top 15 and collected titles at the Manchester Squash Open and Cambridge Group of Clubs Squash Classic.
Victor Crouin, seeded No.2, is projected to meet Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng in the semi-finals. The pair, currently ranked 11 and 12 in the world respectively, produced one of the matches of the 2024 season in Singapore, where Ng edged a 107-minute thriller 20-18 in the deciding game. Adding further intrigue to the bottom half of the draw are former British Squash Open Champion Miguel Rodriguez, seeded No.6, and India’s Ramit Tandon, seeded No.8.
In the women’s event, Farida Mohamed returns as No.4 seed in her bid to capture back-to-back titles. The 23-year-old is seeded to face Scotland’s Georgia Adderley in the quarter-finals before a potential clash with rising Egyptian star Fayrouz Aboelkheir in the semis.
World No.12 Nada Abbas leads the women’s draw as top seed and will target a first World Tour trophy to add to her four PSA World Squash Tour titles. The 25-year-old, who reached the quarter-finals of the 2025 PSA World Squash Championships, opens against either Marta Dominguez or Saran Nghiem before a possible last-eight meeting with compatriot Hana Moataz. Fellow Egyptians Salma Hany (No.3 seed) and Malak Khafagy (No.7 seed) also feature in a packed top half.
The 2025 Open Squash Classic will be staged at Open Squash FiDi in New York City, USA from the 5th to 9th October.
