Karim Gawad & Olivia Weaver Crowned 2025 Silicon Valley Squash Open Champions
October 12 2025

Karim Gawad and Olivia Weaver captured the Silicon Valley Open 2025 presented by Oracle NetSuite titles in Redwood City, California, after securing hard-fought four-game victories over Victor Crouin and Sivasangari Subramaniam, respectively.
Men’s second seed Karim Gawad of Egypt claimed his 31st PSA World Squash Tour title with a composed and creative display, defeating the in-form World No.9 Victor Crouin of France 11-3 2-11 11-5 12-10. Less than two weeks after a surprise early exit at the Qatar Squash Classic, the Egyptian produced a masterclass in attacking squash - combining effortless touch with razor-sharp precision to remind the squash world of his enduring class.
Victor Crouin, who has been one of the standout performers of the new squash season, pushed hard throughout a thrilling 54-minute encounter, but Gawad, drawing upon his vast experience and trademark calm under pressure, eventually prevailed to clinch his first title of the 2025-26 campaign.
In the women’s final, U.S. No.1 and top seed Olivia Weaver delivered a statement performance ahead of her homecoming at next week’s U.S. Squash Open in Philadelphia. The 30-year-old overcame Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam 12-10 4-11 11-4 11-4 to secure her first PSA World Squash Tour title of the new season and successfully defend her crown at the prestigious Gold-level event.
Weaver, renowned for her consistency and tactical intelligence, was tested throughout by the attacking flair of Subramaniam, particularly during a dominant second game for the Malaysian. However, the American responded with composure and control, tightening her lines and rediscovering her rhythm to take the next two games with authority.
After 47 minutes of entertaining, high-paced squash, Weaver sealed victory - a performance that not only reaffirmed her position among the world’s elite but also set a confident tone for the weeks ahead.
The 2025 PSA Silicon Valley Squash Open was staged at Squash Zone in Redwood City, California, USA from the 11th to 15th October.

UNSQUASHABLE players Yannick Wilhelmi and Miguel Rodriguez bowed out of the 2025 Silicon Valley Squash Open, denied quarter-final places by Egypt’s top seed Mostafa Asal and Kareem El Torkey respectively.
Yannick Wilhelmi produced a spirited performance but was ultimately beaten 6-11 5-11 7-11 by World No.1 Mostafa Asal on the all-glass show court at Squash Zone in Redwood City, California.
The young Swiss player entered the contest on the back of a confident opening-round win over Spain’s Bernat Jaume and started brightly, matching Asal in the early rallies with controlled, accurate play. However, the Egyptian eventually began TO impose his trademark pace and power, pulling away to take the first game 11-6.
Yannick continued to battle hard in the second game, working the ball deep and looking to disrupt his opponent's rhythm, but the top seed’s physicality proved decisive as he doubled his lead, taking the second game 11-5.
The third game was Yannic’s best spell of the match, as the UNSQUASHABLE player found greater fluency and attacked with intent, forcing several extended exchanges that drew applause from the crowd. Yet Asal’s ability to convert key points under pressure saw him close out the game 11-7 to seal his place in the quarter-finals.
Miguel Rodriguez was beaten 7-11 7-11 12-10 9-11 in fiercely contested 67-minute four-game encounter against Egypt’s Kareem El Torkey.
The Colombian seventh seed, renowned for his athleticism and flair, was made to work from the outset as El Torkey dictated much of the early play with aggressive hitting and tight control around the front of the court. Miguel, however, stayed competitive throughout, chasing down every ball and forcing several lengthy rallies that tested the Egyptian’s consistency.
After dropping the opening two games, each 11-7, Rodriguez began to find his range in the third. Mixing deft touches with explosive retrievals, he clawed his way back into contention, saving match balls before edging a tense tiebreak 12-10 to extend the contest.
The fourth game was a showcase of both players’ determination and skill, with momentum swinging repeatedly. Miguel continued to fight back from behind, but El Torkey’s attacking intent in the closing stages proved the difference as he sealed victory after more than an hour of compelling play.

World No.1 Mostafa Asal and World No.4 Olivia Weaver have been confirmed as topseeds for the 2025 Silicon Valley Squash Open, a PSA Gold-Level World Tour event which will take place from the 11th to 15th October at Squash Zone in Redwood City, California, USA.
The tournament, now in its second year at Gold level, welcomes 48 of the world’s best players. Both the men’s and women’s draws are packed with quality, as top contenders arrive in California aiming to add their names to the trophy lifted last season by Wales’ Joel Makin and USA’s Weaver.
Men’s Draw: Mostafa Asal, Diego Elias, Joel Makin and Karim Abdel Gawad Headline
The men’s field features four of the current top six in the world rankings. Mostafa Asal, the reigning World Champion, could renew his growing rivalry with Joel Makin in the semi-finals, with both drawn in the top half. The pair clashed several times during the closing stretch of the 2024/25 squash season, producing a series of high-intensity encounters, including at the British Squash Open and PSA World Tour Squash Finals, where honours were shared.
World No.2 Diego Elias takes up the second seeding and could face No.6 seed Aly Abou Eleinen in the quarter-finals, while former World No.1 Karim Abdel Gawad, seeded fourth, adds further pedigree to a competitive bottom half that also includes World No.5 Youssef Soliman. Rising stars Jonah Bryant and Kareem El Torkey have been paired in a mouth-watering opening round clash.
French duo Victor Crouin and Baptiste Masotti complete the seedings at No.7 and No.8 respectively.
Women’s Draw: Olivia Weaver Targets Repeat Triumph
On the women’s side, Philadelphia-born Olivia Weaver returns as top seed, looking to defend the title she claimed last year with victory over Japan’s Satomi Watanabe. Olivia Weaver, currently ranked just behind the established “Big Three” of Nouran Gohar, Nour El Sherbini and Hania El Hammamy, will see the event as a chance to narrow the gap and reinforce her credentials as a contender at the very top of the game.
Olivia Weaver opens her campaign against either Sabrina Sobhy or Menna Hamed and sits in the same quarter as Egyptian No.8 seed Farida Mohamed. British No.1 Georgina Kennedy (No.4 seed) and World No.13 Nada Abbas (No.6) are also potential hurdles in her half of the draw.
Satomi Watanabe, seeded second, will again be a serious title threat after an outstanding 2024/25 season. Her projected semi-final opponent is Malaysian star Sivasangari Subramaniam, seeded third, who continues to establish herself among the elite and could meet Amanda Sobhy in the quarter-finals. Sobhy, a six-time US National Champion, will be hoping to feed off strong home support as she continues her push back into the world’s top eight.
Home Hopes and Wildcards
Seven US players are confirmed across both draws: Weaver, Amanda and Sabrina Sobhy, Marina Stefanoni, Riva Bhagwati, Timothy Brownell and Shahjahan Khan. Two additional wildcards are still to be announced.
With a field stacked with world champions, national icons and rising prospects, the Silicon Valley Open promises five days of top-class squash in California’s Bay Area.
