Paul Coll & Olivia Weaver Win 2026 Squash in the Land Open presented by Porsche Beachwood
January 13 2026
Top seeds Paul Coll and Olivia Weaver delivered commanding performances to secure the men’s and women’s titles at 2026 Squash in the Land Open presented by Porsche Beachwood and staged at the at the UH Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute in Cleveland.
In the men’s final, World No.2 Paul Coll marked his debut appearance at the event in emphatic style, defeating second seed Leonel Cardenas in straight games to lift his third PSA title of the 2025-26 PSA World Squash Tour season. The New Zealander was pushed hard by the 2024 champion in a physically demanding contest, with both of the opening two games stretching beyond the 20-minute mark. Coll’s composure at the critical moments proved decisive, edging a tight second game before asserting full control as the match wore on. With the earlier exchanges taking their toll on Cardenas, Coll accelerated through a shorter third game to seal an 11-7 14-12 11-4 victory and claim the 30th PSA World Squash Tour title of his career.
The women’s final saw an equally authoritative display from USA No.1 Olivier Weaver, who completed a flawless campaign without dropping a single game. Facing compatriot Sabrina Sobhy, Weaver dictated proceedings from the outset, dominating the centre of the court and denying her opponent any opportunity to establish momentum. Having previously progressed no further than the semi-finals in Cleveland, the U.S. No.1 produced one of her most complete performances of the season to secure a comprehensive 11-5 11-2 11-2 win in just 24 minutes and collect the 12th PSA World Squash Tour title of her career.

UNSQUASHABLE players Iván Pérez and Yannick Wilhelmi both saw their campaigns brought to a close in the 2nd round of the 2026 Squash in the Land presented by Porsche Beachwood in Cleveland, Ohio.
Spain’s Iván Pérez produced a spirited and competitive performance against sixth seed Bernat Jaume in an all-Spanish encounter. After conceding the opening game, Iván showed impressive resolve to edge a tense second, saving match momentum with a hard-earned 14–12 response. However, Jaume’s greater consistency and physical control told as the match wore on, allowing the higher seed to close out a four-game victory after 61 minutes. Despite the defeat, Iván’s willingness to battle deep into rallies underlined the strong form he has carried into the new season.
Swiss No.8 seed Yannick Wilhelmi, meanwhile, was unable to find his rhythm against India’s Veer Chotrani, who delivered a sharp and disciplined display to secure a straight-games win in just over half an hour. Chotrani dictated the tempo throughout, leaving Yannick little room to impose his attacking game as the Indian progressed with confidence.
While both UNSQUASHABLE players exit the tournament earlier than hoped, Iván’s competitive showing against a top-six seed and Yannick’s continued presence at major PSA events underline their intent to make an impact as the season develops.

UNSQUASHABLE player Iván Pérez produced a composed and tactically astute performance to secure a place in the second round of the 2026 Squash in the Land presented by Porsche Beachwood in Cleveland, Ohio, overcoming Egypt’s Yassin Elshafei 11-2 11-9 9-11 12-10 in 52 minutes.
Iván set the tone early with a blistering opening game, racing to an 11-2 advantage as he repeatedly exposed gaps at the front of the court. Iván’s accuracy on the volley and willingness to take the ball early denied Elshafei any rhythm, forcing the Egyptian into defensive patterns from the outset. Although the second game was more competitive, Iván showed maturity beyond the scoreboard, absorbing pressure before closing it out 11-9 with disciplined length and intelligent shot selection.
Elshafei responded well in the third, lifting his intensity and attacking more decisively, which briefly disrupted Iván’s control. The Spaniard momentarily lost his grip on the match as Elshafei claimed the game 11-9, but Iván’s response was emphatic. In a tense and physical fourth game, he demonstrated his experience and mental resilience, maintaining clarity under pressure to edge a tight finish 12-10 and seal victory after 51 minutes of high-quality squash.
The win underlines Iván Pérez’s growing confidence on the international stage and reflects the consistency and court craft that have become hallmarks of his game. He will now face compatriot Bernat Jaume in an all-Spanish second-round encounter, a matchup that promises intensity and tactical nuance as both players look to advance deeper into the Cleveland draw.

UNSQUASHABLE player Iván Pérez will begin his campaign at Squash in the Land in Cleveland, Ohio, with a testing opening-round encounter against Egypt’s Yassin Elshafei. The Spaniard will be looking to build on the momentum and impressive form he showed towards the end of 2025, a period that included lifting the PSA Andorra Open title to secure the biggest victory of his career.
Fellow UNSQUASHABLE player Yannick Wilhelmi of Switzerland has been handed a bye in the opening round and will face the winner of the match between Veer Chotrani of India and USA wildcard Ignatius Lahorra.
The third staging of the Squash in the Land tournament will be held in Cleveland, Ohio, with 24 men and 24 women set to compete for the titles across six days of action. The event will be played from the 13th to 18th January and will once again utilise multiple venues across the city, with matches spread between the UH Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute, Urban Squash Cleveland, the Cleveland Skating Club and the Cleveland Racquet Club.
World No.2 Paul Coll leads the men’s field as he looks to claim the Cleveland crown for the first time. The New Zealander arrives in strong form, having already secured two PSA World Squash Tour titles this season at the London Squash Classic and the Qatar Squash Classic, and will be eager to add a third as he continues his pursuit of runaway World No.1 Mostafa Asal. Coll’s consistency and composure make him a formidable top seed in a wide-open draw.
On the women’s side, USA No.1 Olivia Weaver heads the field and will be hoping home advantage can once again inspire her best squash. Weaver has yet to lift the Squash in the Land trophy but produced a standout performance earlier in the season on home soil at the Silicon Valley Squash Open, where she captured the title in impressive fashion. Another strong showing in Cleveland would further underline her status among the world’s elite.
Recent withdrawals from Joel Makin and Georgina Kennedy have reshaped the draw, elevating Leonel Cardenas and Nele Gilis to the No.2 seeding positions. Cardenas returns to Cleveland with fond memories, having won the inaugural edition of the event in 2024, and will be keen to draw on that experience as he begins his 2026 campaign. Gilis, meanwhile, is targeting her first title of the 2025-26 squash season and is determined to convert a series of encouraging performances into silverware as she pushes for a return to the world’s top 10.
While the top seeds receive byes into the second round, the tournament gets underway with 16 first-round matches on the opening day. Established names such as Mazen Hesham and Sabrina Sobhy will be among those in action, setting the stage for an intense and compelling week of squash in Cleveland.
The 2026 PSA Squash in the Land presented by Porsche Beachwood will be held at UH Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute, Cleveland, Ohio, USA from the 13th to 18th January.
