Yannick Wilhelmi Reaches PSA Indian Squash Open Semi-Finals

UNSQUASHABLE player Yannick Wilhelmi produced one of the most impressive campaigns of his career at the 2025 Daly College SRFI Indian Squash Open, delivering a series of composed, disciplined and tactically astute performances that carried him to the semi-finals on the spectacular all-glass court at Indore’s historic Daly College.

Yannick opened his week in commanding fashion, sweeping aside Malaysia’s Ameeshenraj Chandaran 11-4 11-5 11-8 in just 35 minutes. Confident and sharp from the outset, he controlled the tempo with precise length, proactive volleying and intelligent front-court pressure. The dramatic outdoor glass court, erected on the lawn in front of the illuminated façade of Daly College, provided a memorable backdrop for a series of performances full of authority and clarity.

He followed this with one of the standout results of the tournament, overpowering Indian No.1 and fifth seed Abhay Singh 11-3 11-3 11-7 to reach the quarter-finals. Yannick’s accuracy through the lines, combined with his willingness to step forward and dictate, denied Singh any opportunity to settle. It was a near-flawless display that confirmed the Swiss player's rising stature on the PSA World Tour.

The momentum continued into the last eight, where Yannick claimed a breakthrough win over fourth seed Sébastien Bonmalais. After dominating the opening two games, he narrowly missed closing out the match in straight games when Bonmalais saved multiple match balls to take the third 14-12. Yannick responded with impressive composure, resetting immediately and regaining control to seal a superb 11-4 11-7 12-14 11-8 victory - one of the most significant triumphs of his season.

His run came to a close in the semi-finals against top seed Youssef Soliman, but not before Yannick delivered yet another performance of real substance. After losing the first game, he struck back with accuracy and purpose to level the match, showcasing the attacking intent and tactical clarity that had carried him deep into the tournament. Although Soliman ultimately reasserted his authority to win 11-6 8-11 11-5 11-2, Yannick continued to fight for every point and pushed the world-class Egyptian throughout their 52-minute contest.

Across the week, Yannick combined athleticism, discipline and outstanding shot selection to produce one of the most complete tournament runs of his career. His semi-final finish in Indore marks an important step in his development and reinforces his status as one of the PSA World Tour’s most exciting and rapidly advancing players. For UNSQUASHABLE, it was another strong statement from a player whose confidence, maturity and consistency continue to grow with every event.

UNSQUASHABLE player Iván Pérez delivered a gritty and intelligent 1st round performance, pushing India’s Velavan Senthilkumar to four fiercely contested games before narrowly bowing out 11-3 7-11 119 11–5 in 55 minutes.

After a slow start in the opening game, Iván responded superbly in the second, showcasing the blend of control, precision and tactical awareness that has become a hallmark of his game. The Spaniard tightened his structure, took time away from his Indian rival, and varied his pace to great effect, overturning early momentum and levelling the match with a composed 11-7 win.

Iván continued to impress in the third, matching Senthilkumar stride for stride in a game that proved the turning point of the contest. Iván dictated large passages of play, repeatedly stretching the home favourite with accurate length and intelligent movement. Despite his efforts, a late surge from Senthilkumar saw the game slip away 11-9 - an outcome that belied the quality and pressure Iván applied throughout.

The fourth saw Iván continue to compete with intensity and purpose, but Senthilkumar capitalised on the narrow advantage gained in the previous game to close out the match. Even so, Iván’s resilience, shot selection and ability to adapt under pressure were clear markers of his growing maturity on the PSA World Tour.
