Miguel Rodriguez produced a succession of fine wins at the 2024 Open Squash Classic in New York before being denied a place in the final of the inaugural PSA World Tour event by 2nd seed and French No.1 Victor Crouin.
The third seeded Colombian defeated Shahjahan Khan of the USA 11-8 11-8 11-8 in his opening match at the Open Squash FiDi venue before claiming a hard-fought 76-minute 11-8 11-7 16-14 quarter-final victory over World Junior Champion Mohamed Zakaria of Egypt.
In the semi-finals, Miguel was eventually denied by Victor Crouin 11-9 11-8 11-5 in an entertaining 36 minute contest.
The championships were also notable for some fine performances from Indian No.1 Velavan Senthilkumar who started his campaign by overcoming fellow UNSQUASHABLE player Yannick Wilhelmi 11-5 12-14 11-4 11-6 on the opening day of the tournament. An exhilarating encounter between the two UNSQUASHBLE players saw Yannick level the match at 1-1 after a tense second game tie-break, before Velavan was able to regain the edge to claim a hard-fought 63-minute victory which saw him progress to the 2nd round where he defeated former World No.3 Omar Mosaad of Egypt 11-8 11-9 11-8 in 51 minutes.
In the quarter-finals, Velavan was denied by Victor Crouin 11-9 11-5 11-8 in another competitive encounter which lasted 44 minutes.
