Nick Wall runner-up at 2025 British National Championships
August 30 2025

UNSQUASHABLE player Nick Wall delivered one of the standout stories of the 2025 British National Squash Championships, producing a series of battling performances to reach his first final at the prestigious event, staged at St George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club in Weybridge, England.
The Sheffield-born 24-year-old opened his campaign with a hard-fought first-round victory over compatriot Sam Osborne-Wylde. Nick displayed attacking intent and composure under pressure to claim an 11-8 11-6 8-11 11-8 win in just under an hour to book his place in the quarter-finals.
That set up a highly anticipated clash with two-time champion Mohamed ElShorbagy, but the match never materialised after the former World No.1 was forced to withdraw through injury. The walkover advanced Nick into the last four, where he would produce one of the most dramatic comebacks of the tournament.
Up against No.3 seed Curtis Malik, Nick found himself in serious trouble after dropping the opening two games. Lacking rhythm in the early stages on the glass court, he struggled to find his range as Malik dictated play. However, Nick dug deep to shift momentum, battling back with an 11-7 third game before saving multiple match balls in both the fourth and fifth. Showing remarkable grit and shot-making under pressure, he turned the contest on its head to triumph 3-11 8-11 11-7 15-13 12-10 in 80 minutes of gripping squash.
That victory propelled the young Englishman into his maiden British Nationals final, where he faced top seed and defending champion Joel Makin of Wales who claimed an 11-4 12-10 11-3 win in 43 minutes.
Despite falling short in the final, Nick’s run to the title decider marked a significant breakthrough on the national stage. His resilience, particularly in the semi-final against Malik, underlined his growing maturity and competitive edge at the highest level to establish himself as one of England’s most exciting prospects heading into the 2025/26 squash season.
