2025 PSA Grasshopper Squash Cup Zurich 22nd to 27th April

The 2025 Grasshopper Squash Cup will be staged in Zurich from the 22nd to 27th April with first round matches being played at both Grasshopper Squash Club and an all-glass court erected at the Zurich Hauptbahnhof before action moves exclusively to the iconic glass court location.

The 18th edition of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Squash Tour event will feature 48 of the world’s leading squash players.

World No.1 Ali Farag headlines the men’s draw, aiming to capture his first PSA Grasshopper Squash Cup title in what will be his fifth visit to Zurich. The Egyptian has already claimed four PSA World Squash Tour titles this season and his to the final will not be straightforward, as his half of the draw includes World No.5 and fourth seed Joel Makin, as well as dangerous Egyptian duo Mazen Hesham and Aly Abou Eleinen.

Joel Makin, who finished runner-up at the 2023 PSA Grasshopper Squash Cup to Karim Abdel Gawad, has since broken into the world’s top five. With his sights set on climbing higher, the Welshman will need to navigate a potential quarter-final clash against Abou Eleinen, a match that promises to be a stern test of his credentials.

The bottom half of the draw is equally compelling, with World No.2 Mostafa Asal and World No.3 Diego Elias primed for a potential semi-final showdown.

Nouran Gohar, the dominant World No.1, spearheads the women’s championship in her first-ever appearance in Switzerland. The Egyptian has been in imperious form this season, reaching the final in all seven PSA World Squash Tour events she has played and securing three PSA World Squash Tour titles. Her quarter-final bracket includes fifth seed Satomi Watanabe, who recently became the first Japanese player to break into the world’s top ten. Also in this half of the draw are fourth seed Georgina Kennedy and sixth seed Fayrouz Aboelkheir.

Tinne Gilis enters as the tournament’s second seed, having achieved her career-best ranking of World No.5 earlier this season. Despite her consistent performances, the Belgian is still searching for her first title of the 2024/25 campaign. This will be her second Grasshopper Squash Cup appearance, following a second-round exit in 2022.

The bottom half of the women’s draw also features an array of talented players, including Sivasangari Subramaniam, Salma Hany, and Nada Abbas.

UNSQUASHABLE will be represented at the 2025 PSA Grasshopper Squash Cup by Iker Pajares Bernabeu and Wild Card Yannick Wilhelmi who will face 14-time Swiss National Squash Champion Nicolas Mueller in the opening round.
