July 30 2023

England Squash has recently announced that World No.6 Marwan ElShorbagy will represent England at all Professional Squash Association (PSA) and World Squash Federation (WSF) sanctioned tournaments.

Marwan, who celebrates his 30th birthday today, is a winner of 13 PSA World Tour titles having started his journey in England at the age of 14 when joined his older brother Mohamed at Millfield School in Somerset, where they both trained under the guidance of the legendary Jonah Barrington, a six-time British Open Squash Champion.

Following in the footsteps of his brother Mohamed, who started representing England last year, Marwan pursued his education and eventually became a British citizen during his time at the University of West of England in Bristol.

Expressing his excitement about this new chapter in his career, Marwan shared his desire to give back to the country that has been his home for the past 16 years and has played a significant role in shaping his success. He expressed gratitude towards the British coaches and the people who have supported and respected him throughout his journey.

Notably, Marwan and Mohamed faced off in the 2017 AJ Bell PSA World Squash Championships final in Manchester, a historic moment as it was the first time two brothers competed for squash's most prestigious title. Marwan achieved his highest ranking of World No.3 the following year and has since remained within the top 10 for an impressive 46 consecutive months, demonstrating his consistency and skill.

Looking ahead, Marwan is determined to reach the pinnacle of the rankings, clinch a world championship title, and secure as many major victories as possible. He credits his brother's success within the England set-up under the guidance of England Squash National Coach David Campion as a source of inspiration and believes that, with similar support, he can achieve his own goals.

Aside from his on-court ambitions, Marwan is eager to contribute to the England Squash team environment and engage with junior players, an aspiration he has held for a long time. His decision to represent England is welcomed by England Squash National Coach David Campion, who looks forward to supporting Marwan's future endeavors and believes that his experience will be invaluable to the younger players.

England Squash CEO Mark Williams expressed his delight in welcoming Marwan to the team, acknowledging the impact the seasoned player can have on elevating England's standing in the sport. With Marwan set to make his first appearance under the England flag at the PSA Paris Squash Alpine in August, the team anticipates a strong performance from the accomplished squash player. Moreover, Marwan will be a key contender for the England squad participating in the upcoming WSF Men's World Team Squash Championships in New Zealand, adding further excitement to the team's prospects.
