Moustafa Elsirty defeated Portuguese No.1 Rui Soares 7-11 11-2 11-5 11-6 to win the PSA Madeira Squash International staged at the Galo Active Health Club in Madeira, Portugal.

The two players had only met once before on the PSA World Tour, at the 2020 PSA Airport Squash & Fitness Challenger in German which was won by Moustafa Elsirty.

On this occasion, Rui Soares took the first 11-7 to force Moustafa Elsirty to earn victory the hard way. The Egyptian fought back & riding high in confidence after defeating top seed Mahesh Magaonkar in the semi-finals closed-out an impressive 45-minute victory to win his seventh PSA World Tour title.

In the semi-finals, Moustafa Elsirty produced a sensational five-game victory over top seed Mahesh Mangaonkar. The match was a monumental encounter with emotions running high throughout following a 25-minute opening game which indicated that the match would be long & attrition. Moustafa however had other plans & the remaining games were of much shorter in duration as winners & unforced errors increased in equal measure to close-out an rollercoaster 68-minue 14-12 8-11 11-4 1-11 11-6 victory.

Moustafa Elsirty defeated Robert Downer of England 12-10 6-11 11-9 11-1 in the quarter-finals & Tom Walsh of England 11-7 11-8 5-11 11-7 in his opening match.

The 19-year-old Egyptian has risen to a career high No.67 in the latest PSA World Rankings & will next compete at the Heroes Graz Open in Austria which starts on Wednesday.

Iván Pérez of Spain came close to making it a #teamunsquashable final before eventually being beaten by Portuguese No.1 Rui Soares who made his first appearance in a Madeira International final. The match was unfortunately marked by the injury of the young Spanish player in the fourth game with a suspected fracture of one of his fingers, however incredibly the Spaniard was still able to force Soares to play his best squash to eventually secure a hard-fought 55-minute 4-11 11-9 11-5 victory.

Iván Pérez overcame fellow UNSQUASHABLE player Josh Masters 12-10 11-5 9-11 11-6 in the quarter-finals after Josh Masters beat Hugo Varela of Spain 11-9 11-5 6-11 6-11 11-5 & Iván Pérez overcame Juan Camilo Vargas of Colombia 9-11 12-10 11-4 11-9 in their respective opening matches.

The PSA Madeira Squash International was the first fully international tournament to be held in Europe on the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Challenger Tour since the suspension in March 2020 of the PSA World Tour & featured 24 international players.
