Mostafa Asal & Nour ElSherbini PSA World Champions
May 09 2025

Mostafa Asal and Nour El Sherbini captured the sport’s most coveted titles at the PSA World Championships presented by the Walter Family, following commanding victories over compatriots Ali Farag and Hania El Hammamy respectively at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness in Chicago, USA.
In the men’s final, Mostafa Asal delivered a clinical performance, combining raw power with intelligent shot-making to sweep past four-time World Champion Ali Farag 11-7 11-8 11-3 in 41 minutes after remarkably, the 23-year-old didn’t drop a single game throughout the tournament.
Having finished runner-up in last year’s championship, Asal returned with renewed focus to dominate the draw and clinch his maiden World Championship crown. The victory cements his place at the top of the PSA World Rankings and sees him hold both the PSA World Championship and British Open titles simultaneously.
The eagerly anticipated women's final saw Nour El Sherbini etch her name further into the sport’s history books, claiming her eighth World Championship title to equal the legendary Nicol David’s all-time record. The 29-year-old Egyptian overcame a spirited challenge from World No.3 Hania El Hammamy to claim an impressive 11-5 11-9 4-11 11-7 victory in 61 minutes.

The most prestigious event in Professional Squash Assocaition (PSA) World Squash Tour starts today in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The 2024–25 PSA World Squash Championships presented by the Walter Family will featrure a total of 128 players from 27 nations who will descend upon the Windy City to battle for the honour of becoming World Squash Champion. Early rounds will be contested at the University Club of Chicago, a venue steeped in PSA history, having previously hosted both World Squash Championships and multiple editions of the Windy City Squash Open.
From day three, action will shift to a striking all-glass showcourt at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
In the men’s draw, Egypt’s Ali Farag and Mostafa Asal lead the pack as top seeds. Although Mostafa Asal recently leapfrogged Ali Farag in the PSA World Squash Rankings, it’s Ali Farag who takes the No.1 seed due to the timing of the seedings. The four-time World Squash Champion is aiming to etch his name further into the history books by claiming a fifth title, which would place him third outright in the all-time list. Meanwhile, Mostafa Asal arrives as the form player and current World No.1, determined to capture his maiden PSA World Squash Championship crown and avenge last year’s final defeat to Diego Elias.
In the women’s draw, defending champion Nouran Gohar enters the tournament in the form of her career. Since clinching her first World Championship title last season, ‘The Terminator’ has dominated the women’s tour and is widely considered the favourite to retain her crown and become a multiple World Champion.
However, competition will be fierce from fellow Egyptian stars Nour ElSherbini and Hania El Hammamy. Nour ElSherbini, a seven-time World Squash Champion, returns for her 14th World Championship. She opened the season by winning the first three major events but hasn’t lifted a title since. Yet, given her extraordinary record on this stage, she remains a formidable force and title contender.
Hania El Hammamy, once struggling to match the pace of her illustrious compatriots, has found her stride with victories at both the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions and Optasia Squash Championships in 2024, and looks ready to mount a serious challenge for her first World title.
American hopes rest with Olivia Weaver and Amanda Sobhy. Olivia Weaver, now firmly established as World No.4, is chasing a breakthrough win over one of the ‘Big Three’, while Amanda Sobhy has beaten all three of the top-ranked players during her career but has never progressed to a World Squash Championship final. Recently returning to the world’s top eight, the Boston native will be looking to make her mark.
UNSQUASHABLE will be represented at the 2024–25 PSA World Squash Championships presented by the Walter Family by Miguel Rodríguez, Iker Pajares Bernabeu, Nick Wall, Yannick Wilhelmi and Rory Stewart.
The Professional Squash Association (PSA) have announced that the 2025 PSA World Championships presented by the Walter Family will be staged at the Lakeshore Sport and Fitness venue in Chicago, USA from the 9th to 17th May.
The 2025 PSA World Championships presented by the Walter Family will host 128 of the world’s top ranked squash players with a state-of-the-art ASB all-glass squash court will be erected at the Lakeshore Sport & Fitness venue.
The 2025 PSA World Championships presented by the Walter Family will offer the richest prize purse in the history of professional squash, with more than $1,300,000 prize money on offer.
