Mohamed Zakaria & Aira Azman win 2025 IQUW Bermuda Open titles

Mohamed Zakaria and Aira Azman were crowned 2025 PSA IQUW Bermuda Squash Open Champions at the headquarters of the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association in Devonshire, with wins over Miguel Rodríguez and Aira Azman respectively.

Egyptian Mohamed Zakaria needed 110 minutes to eventually prevail 8-11 11-7 6-11 15-13 11-4 against UNSQUASHABLE player Miguel Rodríguez of Colombia.

In the women's final, top seed Aira Azman of Malaysia defeated 2nd seed Hana Moataz 12-10 11-3 11-6 in 27 minutes.

The championships were notable for Miguel Rodríguez reaching his 42nd PSA World Squash Tour final, following wins over Sanjay Jeeva of Malaysia, Simon Herbert of England and Egypt's Karim El Hammamy.

Fellow UNSQUASHABLE player Nick Wall was forced to withdraw from the championships in advance of his quarter-final match with Veer Chotrani of India having incurred an injury in the final game of his 60-minute second round victory over Matias Knudsen of Colombia.

Bermuda is set to host the 2025 IQUW Bermuda Open Squash Championships from the 29th April to 3rd May 3 at the Bermuda Squash Association venue in Devonshire, Bermuda.

The IQUW Bermuda Squash Open 2025 will welcome 48 squash players to the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association for the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Squash Tour Copper event, including defending champions Sanjay Jeeva and Margot Prow who will be joined by a strong field that includes several world top-50 players.

In the men’s champiosnhip, Colombian squash legend, former British Open Squash Champion and UNSQUASHABLE Miguel Rodríguez is the top seed seeding. Hot on his heels are Egypt’s teenage sensation Mohamed Zakaria, seeded second, and U.S. No.1 Timothy Brownell, who occupies the No.3 seeding.

Miguel Rodríguez, 39, arrives in Bermuda still searching for his first PSA World Squash Tour title of the 2024-25 squash season. However, he will face serious threats, particularly from Mohamed Zakaria, 22 years his junior, who recently became the youngest-ever PSA World Squash Tour Platinum quarter-finalist in the modern era at the El Gouna Squash International, and the second-youngest male player to break into the world's top 20 rankings.

Other notable contenders in the men’s draw include Argentina’s Leandro Romiglio, England’s Nick Wall, and former World Squash Championship finalist Omar Mosaad of Egypt.

In the women’s draw, Malaysian National Squash Champion Aira Azman is the top seed as she looks to capture her fourth PSA World Squash Tour title. Standing potentially in her way is her elder sister, Aifa Azman, seeded fourth, with a semi-final clash between the siblings a possibility if they navigate their early rounds successfully.

Egyptian talents Hana Moataz and Salma ElTayeb, seeded second and third respectively, will also be strong challengers. Hana Moataz, in particular, comes into the tournament in fine form following a strong performance at the 2025 PSA Grasshopper Squash Cup.

Barbados’ Margot Prow, who lifted the Bermuda Squash Open trophy last year, returns to defend her title but finds herself outside the top eight seeds. She opens her campaign against Brazil’s Bruna Marchesi Petrillo.
