UNSQUASHABLE players Iker Pajares Bernabeu, Todd Harrity, Rory Stewart and Nick Wall all bowed-out of the championships in the opening round.

The Professional Squash Association (PSA) have announced that World No.1’s and defending champions Ali Farag and Nour ElSherbini have been designated as the top seeds for the upcoming 2024 British Open Squash Championships, set to take place from the 2nd to 9th June in Birmingham, England. The prestigious squash tournament will once again feature an ASB all-glass show court at Birmingham’s Rep Theatre, with matches also scheduled at the Edgbaston Priory Club for the initial rounds.
Men’s defending champion Ali Farag, who produced an extraordinary performance while fasting during last year's championship, returns as the top seed. Ali Farag has been virtually unstoppable since his victory, reaching the final in all but one of the fifteen PSA World Tour events he has competed in, emerging victorious in ten of those finals. His quest to defend his British Squash Open title sees him facing the winner of Leandro Romiglio and Omar Mosaad in round two.
Second-seeded Paul Coll, a two-time British Open Squash Champion, seeks his sixth PSA World Tour title of the 2023-24 squash season and aims to solidify his position as World No.2. Paul Coll, known for his attacking prowess, faces the challenge of avenging his recent loss to former World Squash Champion Karim Abdel Gawad, with a potential quarter-final rematch on the cards. His opening match in round two awaits the winner of Nicolas Mueller and George Parker.
Diego Elias, who fulfilled his childhood dream by becoming World No.1 during last year's British Squash Open Championship, now aims to reclaim his form and silence critics following his recent slip to World No.4. Meanwhile, Mostafa Asal, seeded fourth, has shown a resurgence in form under the guidance of former Commonwealth Gold Medallist and UNSQUASHABLE ambassador James Willstrop, securing notable victories at the Florida Squash Open and the Black Ball Squash Open.
Women’s defending champion, Nour ElSherbini, triumphed in a commanding fashion, securing her third British Squash Open trophy by defeating Nouran Gohar in straight games. The current World No.1, is in impressive form this season, eyeing her seventh PSA World Tour victory of the 2023-2024 squash season. A potential showdown with Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam awaits the defending champion in round two.
World No.3 Hania El Hammamy assumes the second seed position for the tournament, aiming to clinch her maiden British Squash Open title. Despite a recent withdrawal from the El Gouna International Squash Open, Nour El Hammamy is determined to bounce back strongly and secure her first title of 2024. However, a challenging match against compatriot and World No.10 Rowan Elaraby awaits her in the second round.
In the women’s draw, Torrie Malik and Asia Harris secure wildcards, while Simon Herbert and Jonah Bryant claim spots in the men’s draw.
