March 21 2023

The Professional Squash Association (PSA) have confirmed that Mostafa Asal of Egypt has been suspended from the PSA World Tour for six weeks and has received a fine of £2,000 fine having been charged with two separate breaches of the PSA Code of Conduct under Article 4.P relating to ‘Dangerous Play’. The incidents occurred during his quarter-final and semi-final matches at the 2022 CIB Egyptian Squash Open in Cairo.

A statement issued by the PSA has confirmed that an appeal lodged by the player was heard by an independent Appeals Panel convened on the 16th March in accordance with the PSA Tour Rule Book, and after reviewing the evidence the Appeals Panel imposed a six-week suspension as well as upholding the original fine that was imposed by the PSA’s Disciplinary Committee.

The Egyptian World No.1 will be ineligible to compete on the PSA World Tour until the 1st May and has accordingly been withdrawn from the Optasia Championships, to be staged at the Wimbledon Club in London between the 21st and 26th March, as well as the British Open which will be held in Birmingham, England from the 11th to 16th April.
