Yannick Wilhelmi, Iván Pérez & Daniel Mekbib impress at PSA World Squash Championship Qualification

Despite further impressive performances from Iván Pérez, Daniel Mekbib & Yannick Wilhelmi, neither were able to progress to the final round of qualification for the PSA World Championships which will be staged in Chicago next month.

Yannick Wilhelmi from Switzerland came the closest of the three #teamunsquashable players at the Edgbaston Priory Club in Birmingham, England, losing 7-11 11-6 11-3 9-11 11-5 in 54 minutes to 4th seed Ivan Yuen of Malaysia.

Despite an ankle injury sustained in his win yesterday, Spain’s Iván Pérez came close to overcoming Abhay Singh before being denied 11-5 11-7 9-11 11-7 in 52 minutes by the 5th seeded Indian.

Daniel Mekbib of the Czech Republic also came close to causing an upset in his match against 12th seed Simon Herbert before the Englishman eventually prevailed 9-11 11-7 11-4 12-10 in 46 minutes.

Iván Pérez, Daniel Mekbib & Yannick Wilhelmi all registered wins on the opening day of the PSA World Championship Qualification being staged at the Edgbaston Priory Club in Birmingham, England.

Daniel Mekbib of the Czech Republic defeated Mohamed Nasser of Egypt 8-11 11-4 11-1 11-7 in his opening match, Iván Pérez overcame Viktor Byrtus of the Czech Republic 8-11 11-8 8-11 11-9 11-9 & Yannick Wilhelmi of Switzerland defeated fellow #teamunsquashable player Lwamba Chileshe of New Zealand 11-9 11-8 11-9.

Temwa Chileshe of New Zealand & Klara Møller were both denied places in the 2nd round of qualification, with the Kiwi beaten by Ibrahim Elkabbani of Egypt & the Danish No.1 beaten by Scottish Champion Alison Thomson.

In the 2nd round of qualification, Iván Pérez will face Abhay Singh of India, Yannick Wilhelmi will play Ivan Yuen of Malaysia & Daniel Mekbib will be up against Simon Herbert of England.
