Nick Wall wins PSA Northern Joe Cup

Nick Wall claimed the PSA Northern Joe Cup in Manchester with an impressive 8-11 11-4 12-10 11-7 win over fellow Englishman Charlie Lee at Cheetham Hill Sports Club in Manchester, England.

After back-to-back wins at the PSA Gibraltar Squash Open, PSA Swiss Squash Open in October, Nick Wall was aiming to make it three consecutive wins on the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour.

The top seed, started in the second round, against Ben Smith & came through in straight games, before then beating fellow #teamunsquashable player Miles Jenkins in the last eight of the competition.

Nick Wall also came up against another Englishman & #teamunsquashable player in the semi-finals, in the unseeded Stuart MacGregor, winning a four-game 45-minute match, before then getting the better of No.3 seed Charlie Lee in the final to claim his third consecutive PSA World Tour title.

“I couldn’t have imagined the last three weeks to go any better so, I am really pleased with how I am playing,” said Nick Wall after claiming his latest victory.

“I feel like the difference this season for me has been all about getting a good balance between using my physical strengths & also adapting my game & tactics for each individual match, I’m trying to develop more ways to play against different opponents & I feel like that has been working really well!

“I try not to give myself too many strict goals but my main motivation for the rest of this season is to try & improve my ranking enough to get into the biggest tournaments & compete against top players more regularly!”

Both Stuart Macgregor & Miles Jenkins played well in their respective matches against the eventually tournament winner.

Nick Wall started the match cautiously against surprise semi-finalist Stuart Macgregor, losing the first game 11-4. The World No.80 quickly turned things around however, winning the second game 11-6, before comfortably closing out the match 11-4, 11-4 to advance to his third final in as many tournaments.

In his quarter-final match against Miles Jenkins, Nick Wall progressed 11-7 11-3 11-8 in 36 minutes.
