The Englishman was crowned World No.1 in January 2012 following a stunning end to 2011 which saw him remaining unbeaten on the PSA World Tour for fifteen consecutive matches as he claimed the PSA Hong Kong Squash Open, Kuwait Squash Open and PSA Punj Lloyd Squash Masters in India.

Following the release of his critically acclaimed book ‘Shot and a Ghost’ in 2012, James Willstrop began to endure a succession of injuries which eventually led to career-threating hip surgery in 2014.

James Willstrop joined #teamunsquashable at the beginning of 2016, making his UNSQUASHABLE debut at the British National Squash Championships in Manchester where he reached his sixth domestic final.

During his time with UNSQUASHABLE, James has experienced arguable the most successful periods of his career with notable successes including being crowned European Champion in 2017, winning consecutive British National titles in 2019 and 2020 and claiming the biggest title of his squash career by defeating Paul Coll in straight games to win the Men’s Singles Gold Medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, after which he became the most capped England squash player in history.

At the 2022 Commonwealth Games in England, James Willstrop brushed aside the disappointment of losing to Saurav Ghosal in the Men’s Singles Bronze Medal to win a Gold Medal with Declan James in the Men’s Doubles & claim a record seventh Commonwealth Games medal.

The former World No.1 ended 2024 by claiming his 23rd PSA title at the Harrogate Squash Open staged at the Harrogate Sports & Fitness Centre in England.
