This prestigious PSA World Tour event will be the first major title of the 2024-2025 squash season, featuring a 48-player draw for both men and women, competing for the trophy and a share of the $631,000 prize fund, evenly split between the two categories.
As a PSA Diamond-tier event, the CIB Egyptian Squash Open will also include a 32-player qualifying draw in both the men’s and women’s events, with four players from each category advancing through a three-day qualifying round from 26th to 28th August.
Returning to the PSA World Tour calendar after a hiatus during the 2023-24 season, the CIB Egyptian Squash Open sees World No.1s Ali Farag and Nour El Sherbini eager to start their campaigns on a high note.
In the men’s draw, Ali Farag, who had a highly-successful 2023-2024 squash season with eight titles, including five Platinum trophies, aims to continue his dominance. The tournament's reigning champion, having won the last three editions, will begin his campaign after an opening-round bye against the winner of a match between Britain’s Curtis Malik and Greg Lobban.
New Zealand’s Paul Coll, ranked World No.2, also had an outstanding 2023-2024 squash season, securing two major titles and three additional tournament wins. Paul Coll attributes his recent success to changes in his game that rekindled his enjoyment of the sport. He will be looking to maintain this momentum in Egypt, starting against either Germany’s Raphael Kandra or Egypt’s Yahya Elnawasany.
Meanwhile, Peru’s Diego Elias, seeded fourth, returns to Egypt with fond memories, having lifted the PSA World Squash Championship trophy in Cairo in May. The 27-year-old, who realised a childhood dream by becoming World Squash Champion, will aim to build on that success in this season's first major event.
In the women’s draw, newly crowned World Champion Nouran Gohar enters the tournament on a 25-match winning streak, her last defeat dating back to March at the London Squash Classic. Known as ‘The Terminator,’ Gohar ended last season in dominant form and will look to maintain her momentum to challenge World No.1 Nour El Sherbini. Nouran Gohar’s opening match will be against a qualifier or Hong Kong’s Tomato Ho.
Despite losing her World Squash Championship title, Nour El Sherbini also enjoyed a successful season, reaching 11 finals, winning six titles, and maintaining her World No.1 ranking throughout. She will seek to reaffirm her position at the top, beginning her CIB Egyptian Squash Open campaign against the USA’s Sabrina Sobhy, following byes for both players in the first round.
The tournament will also witness the return of two prominent players in the women’s game; New Zealand’s Joelle King and the USA’s Amanda Sobhy. Joelle King, sidelined since the U.S. Squash Open due to back and knee injuries, and Amanda Sobhy, recovering from another Achilles rupture sustained during the Hong Kong Squash Open final, are both set to make their comebacks in Giza. Joelle King is drawn to face Salma Hany in the second round, while Amanda Sobhy will play the winner of the match between Rachel Arnold and Grace Gear.
From the third round onwards, the action will move to an ASB ShowGlassCourt at the OWest complex, while the initial two rounds will take place on traditional plaster courts within the same venue. The entire tournament will be broadcast live on SQUASHTV.
The CIB Egyptian Squash Open is part of the newly restructured PSA World Tour, which takes effect for the 2024-2025 squash season.

The 2024 CIB Egyptian Squash Open is set to make history as the first Professional Squash Association (PSA) Diamond World Tour event. The world's elite squash players will compete for the prestigious title at the newly established OWest complex in Giza, Egypt, from the 30th August to 6th September.
As the inaugural major event of the 2024-25 squash season, the CIB Egyptian Squash Open boasts a 48-man and 48-woman draw, competing for a share of a $631,000 prize fund, equally divided between the men's and women's events.
The men’s draw for the 2024 CIB Egyptian Squash Open will feature UNSQUASHABLE players Iker Pajares Bernabeu and Nick Wall.
The tournament includes a 32-player qualifying draw for both men and women, with four players from each category advancing through a three-day qualifying process from the 26th to 28th August.
The 2024 CIB Egyptian Squash Open will feature World No.1s Ali Farag and Nour El Sherbini who will both be aiming to kickstart their campaigns with victories.
Ali Farag, leading the men's draw, seeks to build on his remarkable 2023-24 squash season, where he claimed eight PSA World Tour titles, including five PSA Platinum trophies. The 32-year-old, who has fond memories of this event having won the last three editions, will face the winner of an all-British clash between Curtis Malik and Greg Lobban after an opening round bye.
Paul Coll of New Zealand, who enjoyed one of his best seasons last year with two major titles and three other victories, enters the tournament with renewed confidence. The New Zealander faces either Germany's Raphael Kandra or Egypt's Yahya Elnawasany in his opening match.
Third seed Mostafa Asal of Egypt alongside Diego Elias, the No.4 seed and reigning PSA World Squash Champion, will both aim to carry the confidence from impressive wins in the 2023-24 squash season.
In the women's draw, new World Champion Nouran Gohar is on an impressive 25-match unbeaten streak, with her last defeat dating back to March at the London Squash Classic. 'The Terminator' aims to continue her dominant form and challenge World No.1 Nour El Sherbini for the top spot. Nouran Gohar's first match will be against a qualifier or Hong Kong's Tomato Ho.
Despite losing her PSA World Squash Championship title, Nour El Sherbini had a remarkable season, reaching 11 PSA finals and winning six PSA World Tour titles, maintaining her World No.1 status throughout. She begins her campaign against USA’s Sabrina Sobhy after both receive first-round byes.
The tournament also marks the return of New Zealand's Joelle King and USA's Amanda Sobhy to competitive action. Joelle King, sidelined by back and knee injuries since the U.S. Squash Open, will face Salma Hany in the second round, while Amanda Sobhy, recovering from another Achilles rupture sustained in the Hong Kong Squash Open final, will compete against either Rachel Arnold or Grace Gear.
From round three onwards, matches will be held on an ASB ShowGlassCourt at the OWest complex.
