Egypt complete historic double triumph at 2024 WSF World Squash Team Championship in Hong Kong

Egypt achieved a remarkable double triumph at the World Squash Federation (WSF) World Squash Team Championships, staged at the Hong Kong Football Club, by claiming the men’s and women’s titles in a historic event where the two championships were contested simultaneously for the first time.

In the men's final, both Mazen Hesham and Ali Farag each showed resilience against a motivated England side who were aiming to end a run of three consecutive final defeats to the reigning champions.

England's World No.35 Curtis Malik played some of the best squash of his career to date before eventually being denied by World No.5 Mazen Hesham who claimed a closely contested 63-minute victory, 4-11 13-11 6-11 11-6 11-8.

In the second match of the men’s final, Ali Farag and Alexandria-born Mohamed ElShorbagy played out another epic encounter of their storied rivalry, with the World No.1 winning 6-11 13-11 11-8 11-9 in 50 minutes to ensure Egypt overcame a determined English side eager to end a streak of three consecutive final defeats

A commanding Egyptian victory over the USA in the women’s final ensured a fourth consecutive title with Rowan Elaraby and Nour El Sherbini delivering decisive wins over Marina Stefanoni and Olivia Weaver respectively.

At the post-match trophy ceremony, dignitaries including Hong Kong Football Club President Nick Hunsworth, Chairman Neil Jensen, and WSF President Zena Wooldridge commended the players and organisers for their efforts in delivering a truly memorable tournament. The event marked a significant milestone for squash, with Egypt etching their name in history as the first nation to win the combined championships.
